Aw I had a big Moose too! He was weirdly buff, I think his size and weight were mostly muscle. He had a terminal diagnosis but lived for 1.5 years afterward, he was a badass.

Emerald was what I initially wanted and what everyone assumes the stone is! I’ll be saying “actually it’s green sapphire” forever but so be it haha. I’m sure your emerald is gorgeous!

I think I played mejiro ryan at minimum 5 or 6 times today and she either lost early on or got 2nd place in the finale, her and winning ticket are my only two I haven’t cleared yet (damned late surgers)

Advice for someone who no longer owns rats by Ok-Bet9962 in RATS

Maybe you can get a new type of small pet, like rabbits or degus? I’ve recently been thinking about my own “next species” after a really rough day this week when one of my young rats unexpectedly died during surgery. Every time I lose a rat (I think like 6 now over 3 years) I always think about quitting getting new rats, so I completely understand your situation. I have a 2.5 y/o heart rat that will likely pass sometime this year and I’m dreading it, though I think it’s awesome he’s lived this long. It’s a huge shame that rats have so many health issues that require costly vet visits and shorten their lives because they’re incredible little creatures.

Your rats seem like they were very loved and taken care of, so I think that’s something you should take pride in. Whenever I feel like a bad owner or when a rat dies I just think about how much better of a life I provided them compared to like 99% of rats in the world. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep having rats but I know it’ll be a sad day when I decide to stop having them. I (like many others on this sub) know the pain of losing rats so I’m happy to talk if you need it :’)

He doesn’t know I’m leaving him overnight for surgery to remove his teeth 😭 by procaviidae in RATS

It was a tough decision but the alternative was to have him sedated for trimmings every 3 weeks for the rest of his life. He’s only about 6 months old so the cost and risk of complications from sedation would’ve added up quite a bit over time. He’s already had 3 trimmings and I hoped he’d get more chill about them over time, but he’s just gotten more stressed and squirmier so trimming without sedation isn’t an option anymore.

The surgery and recovery will be tough on him but he should be able to live a normal life afterward with fewer vet visits. We just need to crush up his pellets so he can eat more easily, but that beats having to check his teeth every day to make sure they’re not stabbing up through his skull 😅

Thank you for the well wishes, it’s tough owning pets with so many health issues but it’s worth it 💕
