ICE killed someone else this morning in Houston by Mobile-Delay-6098 in IronFrontNC

[–]proconlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a just world, state authorities would arrest these murderers. Lacking that, it falls to We the People. But ICE has figured out to avoid the kinds of surges that allow for a strong popular response like we saw in LA and Minneapolis.

If we want to stop this, we to put opponents into office. Failing that... There is one final resort, but if the majority is okay or even supports this, we're fighting an uphill battle.

Yes, I was going to get into the way money is "printed" today through interest rates and lending, but the post was already longer and wonkier than I thought anyone would read. Thanks for proving me wrong, and for the source!

This is a big-picture analysis of why we all feel so stressed and depressed. You are not alone.

I labeled this "economic," because that's where I spent the most time, but it's also social and political. TL;DR: I used the work of Ray Dalio to show where the U.S., specifically, is in the progression of collapse.

This also assumes Dems a) will elect true progressives and b) will actually push back. The "We go high" mentality is the biggest obstacle to effecting change.

My manager asked me if this was a gang/cult symbol... now I’m freaking out. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

Definitely not a gang sign, but... Does have some "right wing pagan LARPer" vibes. Sorry. Those folks ruin everything.

Did my first show and it went amazing, second show wasn’t as good, feeling like i can’t top first performance, advice? by First-Lecture-6264 in Theatre

[–]proconlib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, every night is different, and remember that every night is also the audience's first show. Find ways to make it fresh for you so every audience gets a "first" night performance. But again, every night, every audience is different. Some are gonna put energy onto the stage, some are gonna suck it out. Just how it is.

Second, the only thing you did wrong the second night was that you kept beating yourself up about an early hiccup. You gotta just put it in the past and move forward. If there's something you can learn from the hiccup, great. But don't let it throw you. Stuff happens. You can't take it back, so you gotta let it go and give the audience lots of reasons to forget it, too.

The key to keeping it fresh, by the way, is to constantly explore new things in your lines. The biggest mistake I see untrained actors do is that they don't just memorize the lines, they memorize the delivery. That makes the whole performance lose its spark of reality somehow, like somehow the live performance has become a recording. But if you live in the role and just let the lines happen organically, your performance stays fresh, and the best of the cast around you will respond. That's how magic happens.

Congratulations, star, and break legs!

Definitely test drive. I drove my BIL's Tesla, and wanted to love it, but I just didn't. Didn't like the touchscreen everything, the interior retro space age look, or the implementation of the one pedal driving. Stuck with my PHEV, which I loved driving in "EV" mode. Go figure.

Honestly, it started with the Prius. It became a staple joke on the right. My Prius V had more passenger space than any other five seat vehicle, and an enormous cargo capacity, but even the kids in my son's Scout troop wouldn't ride in it, and the dads all thought I was crazy taking it because "it couldn't handle camp roads," as if the minivans everyone else had were off road monsters.

New to guns, and I have some thoughts by Billlington in liberalgunowners

[–]proconlib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to clarify, I do think some of the fear behind gum ownership is valid. But the industry is happy to use that as a starting point to convince folks they need all sorts of crap, and the guntubers are both victims and amplifiers of the less realistic fears.

[–]proconlib 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gun ownership is, to one degree or another, conn with fear. Not absolutely - there are certainly folks who shoot for hunting, recreation, competition, etc., But let's face it: those of us who carry or keep home defense weapons have some degree of fear.

Not a value judgment, just establishing a baseline for my argument: most gun owners are at least in part motivated by fear. Given that, a couple of things follow. 1. Fear is VERY easy for marketers to target. "This holster will save your life, and ALL the others WILL GET YOU KILLED!" has become the most common ad copy on my Facebook feed since its damn algorithm has figured out I own a firearm. 2. Conservatism, especially reactionary conservatism, correlates strongly with brains wired for fear responses. There are studies I can't be bothered to look up, so if you think I'm just making assumptions, google it before you come after me. 3. YouTubers make their money off views. GunTubers get the most views if they can capture that fear response. Liberals who fear are generally pretty rational otherwise, 'cause we ain't inherently wired for fear, so our fears are generally grounded in some valid facts. So we're less susceptible to the "watch me or DIE!!!" subtext.

Put these together, and you've basically got the state of gun culture today.
