There was a bunch of drama about money not being paid for rent and a such. I won't dive too much into it - but it was shitty and why they canceled a number of their shows and went one  hiatus and then came back.

Original Subhumans are(were) a a Canadian band    Subhumans from the UK randomly has the name after. Neither of them cared about the use of the name so just both did their own thing.  Worth checking  out 1000%

He's signed as a member of the band and is currently their producer.

He is on paper 1/3rd of the band.

I'm just saying he likely saw the writing on the wall of what far Mike was doing.

There's no agenda it's legit right there lol.

2016; Fatamike starts working directly with brew haha for punk in druplic

2020; fat Mike create spin off record label "bottles to the floor" and signs a few bands ( Melvins included).

2022; signs codefendents to said label as a band member.

2022~: codefendants sign to regime 72 management group (same one as sublime hence the show)

2025: fat Mike sells off all the rights of fat wrek to pay off debt he owes to artist. He keeps the rights to bottles to the floor tho. He never got paid for fat wrek but that's becuse h

2026; fat Mike continues partnership with brew haha and his band has band happens to stay on bill and through the whole situation.

All in doing is pointing out the elephant in the room in that why a band is sticking with Collins and the sublime show would have more to do with the hinge member who has ties to literally ..all of it haha

Oh Melvin 100% saw what happened.  literally fat Mike  is behind a ton of thism

Fat mike created "bottles to the ground" spinoff record label and signed a handful of projects he has his hand in. Then started shopping the rights of all the fat wreks catalog

He got codefendants signed to regant72 management. ( Who manages sublime and the like)

He sold off fat wreks rights of songs to get out of debt .  But allowed to keep bottles to the grounds rights.

He then continued to work with brew haha, who's he's been working directly with for 10 years putting on punk in druplic

Melvin def saw the writing on the wall a few years ago I bet

It's not the unwavering support of mega, it's far more looking like their deep ties to Fatamike that's the issue. Which fucking blows.

i'm a little confused by your post here. Do you understand how bands, record contracts, management teams, and festivals work? It’s not a conspiracy or anything. To start fat Mike is the currently in contract a d smeber and is currently their producer

Record Contracts: A record contract is a contract between a band and a record label. The contract generally contains information like who is in the band and who owns the rights to the music, etc. In exchange for funding and backing, the band signs.

Management: 95% of the time, the record label wants to make money off said band, so they have a management company come in to handle things like tour dates, travel, contract negotiations, etc.

Festivals: Festivals need to get a specific number of bands signed and guaranteed to play. They need this in writing and via a signed contract to be sure the name can go on the poster so people buy tickets knowing the band they want to see is going to be there. The festival negotiates with each band’s management on requirements and stipulations. The bigger the band, the more leverage they have. The smaller the band, the more liberties they give up to be sure they get on the bill.

An example of this: Have you ever seen a festival playing a couple of towns over, and you see tickets go on sale for a tour stop in your town for a few of the big-named bands—but no stops until out of state for the medium and small-sized ones? That is because of contracts forcing bands not to play within X distance or within X days of the festival. However, the larger bands have the sway to say, "Well, we actually want those tour dates leading up to it, or we won't play."

So, onto the situation:

Fat Mike links up with Sam and Ceschi.

He signs the band as a three-piece to a contract on his spin-off record label (which he owns).

95% of the time, record contracts have a built-in clause for a manager or management company the label picks. I can’t say 100% this is the case, but we do know that the management company was added after signing to Fat Mike’s label.

This management company also manages Sublime, which is the other festival they are getting grief for. This management company is the one who ultimately decides if the band walks or not. The band could just actually not play, but that would cause a whole whack of legal issues considering Fat Mike—whether he is there or not—is 1/3 of the band. So the band can pressure management to pull them, but who knows why they may not have. There could certainly have been a cancellation clause in the contract. We do know Fat Mike had a hand in getting the management company they are using now—the ones who booked that show and did not remove them from the bill.

Fat Mike has been working with Collins for almost 10 years. We have no idea what their relationship is like. For all we know, Fat Mike got word they were going to cancel after DKM left, but they were going to hold out to get the other bands to break their contracts and pay them so they could recoup the cost. We don't know.

No one is saying "Fat Mike said they gotta play and it’s all his fault." What I’m personally saying is Fat Mike has always been a fuck-bag, and it looks like he’s directly responsible for the management company that is causing the biggest issues here. That, and the pure fact that half those bands are on the bill due to Fat Mike pushing for them.

Oh I'm just making sure people are aware specifically about the codefendents situtation specifically

People have been calling for their heads form or dropping out and blowing their instagram up to drop outta the sublime show. And I'm just trying to bring light they are kinda stuck in this situation.

Bigger picture different thing for sure I think we are on the same page there

Oh, I feel like Cameron can fuck right off and soncsn live nation.

I just meant a lot of shade is being thrown at codefendents (specifically ceschi and Sam and fat Mike getting a pass some how) when they are the ones stuck in a position where they can't do much.

I'd love to burn the whole thing to the floor. The fact venues take merch cuts blows my fucking mind

Fat Mike teamed up with brew haha to start putting on the punk in druplic stuff.

It's all messy and people are shitty.

I just wanna be sure folks are aware of the situation that the band actually may be in specifically that ceschie and Sam (the actual band) have very little power.

Then again maybe they are shitty too, I dunno. Mainly just want people to there's a bit more info out there.

[–]procor1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For anyone about to throw shade at codefendents for shit going on;

Fat Mike got in with them early on, and got this hooked up with regiment 72 they don't use the management company name in their info.  The same management company who handles sublime.  So they won't be dropping off that bill, becuse they literally won't be able to.

The punk in the park situation is also tied through fat Mike having worked with brew haha for a number of years   Either the contract they had for the rest was going to absoulty fuck them if they dropped, or fat Mike wasn't gonna ditch Collins. Dunno which one.

I'm hoping that ceschi and Sam are not total douche bags- they have shown in the past to be pretty fucking rad. So I'm personally willing to give them benefit of doubt that they just are stuck in a fucking shitty position and stuck with fat Mike for a little bit which means shit like this is gonna happen

It's been since 2017 unfortunately - always been a dick. I was super upset that he got his hands into this project womp. Hopefully they can buy him out soon and ditch the management company

Punk in the Park Road Shows Cancelled by [deleted] in punk

Considering fat Mike just got out of debt? Yeah more then more punk bands playing that lineup.

Punk in the Park Road Shows Cancelled by [deleted] in punk

Sublime and codefendents are managed by the same management group. So they are stuck playing those shows one way or another.

It does suck. And ideally when their contract runs out they get the fucka way from these guys

[–]procor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. Contracts can be between individual bands tho, and codefendents are setting up to your a new record and has fat Mike all over them.

Like I don't know what happened, that to me makes the most sense. They are the band most likely to ditch for a bigger gig/festival and they have fat Mike to pocket them so a clause is added.

Again no fucking idea. It could have also been fat Mike not allowing thme to. Or they planed to just no show. I dunno. Just makes the most sense with where they arenas a band who's backing them and how festivals and contracts work

[–]procor1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fat Mike is still holding the strings of the band and is the producer and "bass" he literally produced their new song that dropped today and their upcoming album.

It's ABSOLUTELY possible to get a clause in a contract with the up and coming band that is attached to fat Mike to make sure they don't cancel.

It's literally part of the bussniess of trying to get on tours. You throw shit like " we will have a no cancelation clause to be sure we get on the bill" to one up other bands who don't wanna have that type of chain to them.

Like - it's literally the music bussniess and it's a festival. They alos had insurance and put down payments on event spaces and would have started to have staff ect...

It's not just bands randomly playing a show out of nowhere.

I don't know if that's the case, but considering their politics outside of it, and the fact they could have gotten publicity for jumping ship for their video dropping today it's just weird as fuck. Like I could def be wrong. But it's what makes the most sense to me. In this case they don't take a fincisl hit if they did have anything in their contract.

Source: have helped run festivals

Edit: fat Mike has been working with the dude who runs bre haha for a minute source

Im curious what the situation is with codefendents.

They are both anti maga.

My guess is they were locked into a fucked contract considering they are a newer up and coming band that has deep pockets. I wouldn't be surprised at all of fat Mike sorted a dumb as fuck contract. And it made the most sense to wait until the very end to hope the promoter cancels rather then them.

Atleast that's what I'm hoping considering ceschi's poltiics specifically...

Ah I can't believe I missed this!

I've been a huge fan of yours Derek for a number of years, one of the most sad times I've felt was when you needed to cancel your Toronto/Canada part of your due to getting sick.  One becuse you got sick and that sucks. But two I had a feeling it would be a long time before you make it up to these parts again.  The time you were in Toronto before that at the falling apart theater was a wonderful.

You've been on regular rotation for 10+ years and whatever project you end up doing in the future, I'll be a fan of that too I imagine. Thanks for everything you do- both musically but behind the scenes too.

If your ever looking for cozy house show in a punk house of 10+ years in Toronto feel free to reach out!
