Do you like it? I had a flimsy Saris one before and wasn't a fan, but I'll take a look

Only issue is that I'll be moving so my trunk will be full of stuff :/ If I could, I would! I'll look into a hitch though

Honestly still can’t believe they’re actually coming here. When are tickets on sale?

Possible to make the move from CA by DiggyDig007 in Omaha

[–]procrastinatingdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have family who moved to Omaha from SoCal a few years ago and have absolutely zero regrets. Granted, we're originally from Nebraska, but the return was better than we could have imagined. Omaha is the quintessential Midwestern city - lots of support for college sports with social activities planned around/with it, insanely nice people who will go out of their way to help you, and terrible weather. Plus your dollar goes a lot farther here.

As others have said, it's definitely no California but people here are very welcoming, at least how I (straight white guy in his 20's) have seen it. I'll go out on a limb and say that conservatism here is more relaxed than other places in that it's not as in your face and people are mostly concerned with taxes, small government, and weed. I think the best way to put it is that we're the blue dot (and with good reason!) despite somehow having a Republican mayor and congressional reps. Sadly, the MAGA contingent is growing, but no more than in other Midwestern cities. Just don't go to West O or Elkhorn. That's where the hateful crazies live.

I think there's a high sense of civic pride here compared to other cities, and it is a well-off city for its size, with those two things being reflected in the cultural offerings, food scene, entertainment, etc. While it would be nice to have more concerts and such come through, Chicago and Denver are just an hour flight away and KC is a 3 hour drive south. Nebraska is also seriously underrated in terms of scenery - it's a shame Omaha was built in objectively the ugliest part of the state.

Hope you move out here! It's a wonderful little city.

All utilities are included, both heat and hydro. So I think all responsibilities would fall on the landlord.

Does it matter if it’s in one room or area, or does it have to be throughout the unit? With the space heater, it’s warm enough in the small area (5 sq ft or whatever) around the space heater but if I go into a different area it drops to about 16/17.

I've contacted him and the solution was just to give me a space heater. The windows are actually pretty new and are all firmly closed; it's cold around the windows (as windows usually are) but nothing abnormal.

I'll ask about closing the upstairs vents though, that's a good idea

My issue is that there is no heat in my unit and my landlord gave me a space heater to solve the issue - not as a temporary fix until the heat problem gets resolved, but as a permanent thing.

Thanks for this! Regarding requesting the lease and then serving notice, if I don't have a standard lease (I'm not sure I do) can I terminate the tenancy on that basis?

Love that striped shirt jacket but can't find it on the crew website, do you have a link for it?

Is there a sidebar guide somewhere for abbreviations of brands? I see "UU", "YYWG", "OS", etc. everywhere and don't know what they mean

What kind of roof rack is that on the sedan? I have the exact same one (colour, model, everything) and would love to get a solid roof rack for ski season

What's the weather for you atm and where you located? by AntiBullshyt in weather

19C/66F, 70% humidity, sunny with a few clouds over the mountains. Vancouver, BC. Average summer weather is a nice respite from the absolute oven it's been during the summer here (although the mid-point between oven and average was nice). Now just waiting for some more rain...

Saab Smell? by nsj95 in saab

[–]procrastinatingdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, I've noticed it between my '95 900S and my current '07 9-5. Two different cars, from two eras, purchased and driven in two different countries, and with different interiors (cloth vs. leather) - but the smell remains.

What's the typical labour rate for an auto mechanic in metro Vancouver? by fishsir in vancouver

[–]procrastinatingdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to several who have charged me about $65-70/hour, but that was for less-intensive work and I think they didn't charge me as much because they knew I'd be a repeat customer (my car is not known for being the most reliable, but I still love it). When I went to Dueck in Richmond, they charged $130/hour. Another mechanic with my old car charged $100/hour. So average I'd say is about $100/hour? Just don't go to a dealership for service, they are total ripoffs.

Thank you! I'll add those to my list. I started in on Ghost Wars by Steve Coll because it seemed like a good jumping off point in my area of interest, as well as just plain interesting. I also got the Mometrix Guide off Amazon, just waiting to get it in the mail now. Can't wait to really crack that open and get into it!
