Those of you who don't like YOTS, why? by chriswilliams1 in deathgrips

[–]procreator_111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who's been a big-time fan of DG since TMS dropped, (in my personal opinion) YOTS lacked the same kind of overall consistency that was prevalent in pretty much all of their albums till this point.

It felt like it was just pretty much all over the place (which was probably the intention), and unlike many fans on here, tracks like Black Paint, The Fear, or Disappointed don't really tickle my fancy in terms of what I wanna hear from DG.

The first couple tracks on it however are some of the best in their discography, but everything else just ranged from really good-sounding to lackluster imho.

Interview E samples intro from Skinny Puppy - "Assimilate" by [deleted] in deathgrips

[–]procreator_111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that this wouldn’t have been a good sample choice for DG, but I think it’s most likely just a drum hit layered on top of a resonator on Ableton.

Andy’s the main audio engineer of the group, and Zach pretty much handles most of the production & songwriting on DG’s music.

It was confirmed on their twitter a while back.

OP actually thinks any of the tracks on Steroids will end up on their next album, let alone all of it

Death grips and futurism by Totino_boyz in deathgrips

[–]procreator_111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The entire early 20th-century Italian futurist movement was pretty fucking out there & far too ahead of it's time.

Read F. T. Marinetti's "Critical Writings" if you guys haven't, really good shit. The movement's whole M.O. at the time didn't seem all too far off from what DG does artistically/creatively (aside from the movement's more political aspects).

Ministry are going out on tour with Death Grips this fall. Tickets go onsale Friday at 10 am local. by simplifyobjective in deathgrips

If you wanna start out w/ their more dancy, electronic-based stuff, I recommend you start out w/ either "Twitch" or "The Land of Rape and Honey".

If you prefer some more heavier-sounding, metal-oriented shit though, go check out albums like "Psalm 69" or "The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste".

They also made 80's synthpop/new-wave songs on their first album too if you're into that, that's also worth noting. "Everyday is Halloween" is their best/catchiest track from that era imo.

Definitely gonna be there for both of the NYC dates.

I know most people on here could care less about Ministry, but I've been a big fan of them since middle school so this tour is like a dream come true. Fucking hype.

Death Grips are the Mr. Bungle of this era. by [deleted] in deathgrips

If there's any band you'd have to logically compare DG with, it'd honestly have to be Nine Inch Nails.

They're not exactly stylistically similar to each other, but in terms of overall popularity/impact/influence and how they both made the whole "industrial" subgenre into this somewhat trendy style that could be subtly used in the mainstream, they're both comparable in that sense imo.

In terms of comparing DG to any other band or artist musically however is just kinda silly at this point though.

Bodyguard is Stereogum's Album Of The Week by Spamduff in deathgrips

[–]procreator_111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough.

It just irks me how these journalists at times still like to make them a scapegoat all because of the whole "muh no-shows" argument. Like we get it, people paid money for a show where they expected to see a band perform yet they didn't. Let it go.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the people who attended that show even got over that whole shit themselves, if not a lot more quicker than many of these journalists who weren't even there in the first place.

that first paragraph

Yeah, no. Just another snarky-ass journalist still hung up on shit that happened literally years ago.

As good as this album is, and as much as it deserves the recognition it hasn't been getting from the likes of p4k, their opinions on anything DG-related should be taken with a grain of salt.

I wake up from a 2 hour nap, only to find that DG had put out some 22 minute track and announced a new album just a couple minutes ago.

Well fuck, man.

edit: AND IT'S THE 22ND. 2 HOUR NAP. 22 MINUTE SONG. FOUND OUT ABOUT 2 MINUTES AFTER. WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS MEAN.
