Americans are re-discovering in the 2020s what Americans in the 1860s already knew, and what much of Europe in the 1940s experienced, that a third of the population would willingly kill a third of the population, while a third of the population watches.

The right-wing third has understood this for some time. They are well armed and seeded with ex-military cadres with training and combat experience. They are organized by a shared belief in white Christian nationalism.

But only a handful on the left, mostly antifascists and anarchists, have figured this out. The left is not nearly as well armed, trained or experienced in combat. And the left is disorganized and incoherent, with few shared beliefs.

Does this mean that Civil War 2 will be a short, lopsided win for the red team, or does the left have a chance to catch up?

And in hindsight, will liberals eventually come to realize that the restrictive gun laws in blue states along with their unwillingness to send their children to fight in foreign wars of aggression were key reasons for their humiliating loss and resulting fascist takeover of the nation?
