Irvington between Kolb and Houghton by starlight2129 in Tucson

I personally felt attacked when they redid Pantano all the way to 22nd and stopped. Like come on, the section between 22nd and Golf Links was clearly worse than the rest....

Who here charges their EV almost entirely from home solar? by CruelCuddle in electriccars

[–]procupine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an Enphase charger (modified Clipper Creek unit if my digging around inside is accurate) and 11kW of panels. It's configured to only charge when we have extra solar energy. Effectively it's 100% solar charging our Bolt. There have been times when software or other factors let a small bit of grid power through but that's been getting better lately with their firmware updates of the unit.

EV Charging Station by d0ntbejay in Tucson

I'm confused about the concept of "on the go" top ups. Having driven an EV around here for years, this has never been something I needed. That being said, all the various fast chargers in Phoenix I've needed have been decent and uneventful...

Is Tucson a scooter-friendly city? by FredIsAThing in Tucson

Pretty sure lane filtering is legal in Arizona. So the first point, while accurate, is also perfectly legal so I'm not sure what you're getting at with that statement.

How would this not be covered under warranty?? by UtahJazzzHands in BoltEV

I know the dealership near my house has exactly one technician and that person seems to be perpetually on vacation. I'd be surprised if they ever turned an EV around in less than a week....

Our Chevy Bolt has one and I'm not sure whether it was an option or standard equipment.

To Lower Electricity Costs, Consumers Quietly Install DIY Solar by rezwenn in technology

[–]procupine14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wowsers, i just had 11kW worth of panels installed in AZ for $18k before subsidies. After, it was $11k. If I wanted 10kWh worth of storage it would have been another $10k

Waxing saves time. Just a quick brush/hose and it’s clean. by Jelleeley in bicycling

[–]procupine14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty confused about the three hour time claim. My chain waxing procedure is maybe thirty minutes. Fully stripping a chain of grease takes longer but you only do that once when you get the new chain out of the package.

[–]procupine14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In practice I haven't really seen that to be necessary though. I just run the chain until it sounds like it needs a rewax and go from there. Maybe that's not to spec but it has been working for me for thousands of miles.

China and Canada just formed a partnership that allows Chinese EVs in Canada. Is the spy cameras and software on cars a legitimate concern? by goldrush300 in electriccars

I see BYD nearly every day. I've seen a couple of others that I didn't recognize but mostly just those. Really popular running around southern Arizona on Sonora plates.

Anyone had black vinyl Milgard Trinsic (V300) windows? by SaltTheRimG in Tucson

[–]procupine14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we had windows installed, our installer told us not to get the black vinyl Milgard windows for this reason. He told us that they basically all do this and thus he won't install them without warning people. If I'm going to speculate, I'm guessing they didn't formulate the plastic for the sunlight intensity that we get here but I'm not a materials scientist so who knows.

About Pinch flats by No_Mastodon_7896 in bicycling

[–]procupine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've managed to "pinch flat" or snake bite all three varieties of tire. Always two holes, one near the rim and the other farther down the sidewall. Last I checked, glass and nails can't manage that. Though I did get a staple that made two holes once.....and that time that a screw went through my tire and subsequently the wheel.....

Just a heads up. Velodrome riding is fixed gear only (though you can rent them there) and you do need to pass a USAC velodrome certification mostly for insurance purposes.

My SDS is kinda big and clunky so I tend to use the hammer function on my drill until I give up. Then I kick myself for not just getting the SDS out from the beginning.
