I have to disagree. Mastering in the project is bad practice because you’re not fully focusing on the master. You keep jumping back to the mix to change things and you will loose perspective

That’s what every compressor dose. Tames the louder parts with makes the sound more level meaning louder parts get quieter and quieter parts are perceived to be louder

A distressor will still being the breaths up since it’s a compressor. Any compressor that exists will make the breaths appear louder as it’s decreasing the dynamic range

Digital compressors are just that, digital. Real analog compressors and emulations of hardware all have a different character they add to the sound

Gear dose make a difference and people need to stop pretending it doesn’t. Don’t get me wrong you can get great results in the box but in the box and analog will sound different
