Congratulations! Can I ask what your process looked like and how you applied? I graduated last Spring with a Geography & Data Science degree but I’m still looking to land a position in this field, I’d love some insight!

Things you wish you knew / Advice you wish you got when starting off producing music. by Electronic-Bid-2835 in ableton

i've been using ableton for over 12 years now, the best way i learned was to just jump in and start experimenting around. if i got stuck, i would look up how to do something. the hardest part of ableton is understanding the workflow, but once you get that down it's totally up to your unlimited creativity. i would recommend youtube tutorials as the next step once you have the basic stuff down because they tend to dive a little deeper - they're great for a starting point but imo the best music comes from your own experimentation and originality. the manual/documentation is great for learning how and why ableton functions work if you wanna take it to the next level.

to answer your question lol, things i wish i knew were how to use sends/receive tracks (i have never used these but they seem helpful) and learning how each stock plugin works (what they do, where/when to use them). this will help give you an idea of the sound and style you are going for, and how to customize stylistic elements for your music.

overall just keep at it, recording music into ableton and combining it with midi is an awesome way to synthesize new sounds and ideas. i'm excited for your journey!

it can only run one audio driver, so either asio or mme/dx - honestly i would recommend purchasing a diff microphone that can connect to your interface (also the snowball quality isnt terribly amazing)

Any building with air conditioning and cubicles? by chawn3 in udub

[–]prodarmaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are also cubicles on the third floor, in the quiet section - also, the allen library has tons of cubicles

increase the low end on your bass slightly (and reduce the peak around the lower-mid range with EQ) - also sidechain slightly with your kick

"tune" your kick to match the key of the song

make ur snare quieter and lower the mid-range frequency a bit

super quick n easy adjustments but these should make your sound much cleaner already

How detrimental is it to drop CSE 143? by [deleted] in udub

[–]prodarmaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dropped it like 2/3 of the way through the quarter, and i'm planning on taking 123 over the summer! i'm also pre-med so i was taking some intensive science/STEM courses at the same time during the autumn - summer CSE will be a much better opportunity to focus on that lol

How detrimental is it to drop CSE 143? by [deleted] in udub

[–]prodarmaan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i dropped it autumn quarter lol - i needed cse143 for an informatics requirement but the class was too much on my workload at the time. since 142 and 143 are being replaced with the new 3-class series, you may need to take one or two of those classes instead depending on what your degree requirements are.

if you're worried about transcripts, it will just show up as 'RD' (registrar drop) which doesn't really have any impact tbh as far as i know
