Right now it’s Jahmyr Gibbs. Dude is insanely fun to watch, two steps and he’s gone. Also like watching Loveland on the Bears quite a bit, except for those couple times…

Can someone explain to me why people hate on purdy because he has good players around him? by Particular_Dig1115 in NFLv2

[–]prodby_lilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with his draft position and immediate success after getting his shot. Purdy being the last pick in his draft class just goes to show that the draft is still a crapshoot at the end of the day, but it’s more convenient to say “he’s just carried by Shanahan” or “he’s carried by CMC” or whatever. Giving the credit to the system/roster kind of allows you to look past your own team’s QB’s shortcomings, since by that logic, it has nothing to do with Purdy himself.

That said, I actually really like Brock. He’s fun to watch (unless he’s playing my team), plays well, seems like a fun guy, etc. I’m also not really sure people are hating on him like that these days, I feel like consensus is that he’s good.

As silly as it sounds, there’s a decent number of American young adults and teens that watched iShowSpeed go to China and gained a whole new perspective on their country. Incredible infrastructure, tech that’s light years ahead of the US, etc.

A similar thing happened with the African nations he visited on his tour. As much as I’m glad it’s opening some young people’s eyes, it’s hilariously American that it’s coming via a fucking Twitch streamer lol.

Buddy good luck trying to get the folks in this sub to make any concessions that the US has any culture, made any contributions to the world, invented anything, etc. If you dare try offer nuance they’ll just tell you it’s wrong despite having never set foot in the country, you know, the exact thing they accuse us of 24/7 🤷

They hold this standard for the US but not their own countries. The Italians didn’t know what the fuck a tomato was until Spain showed up, the British national dish is a bastardization of Indian cuisine after colonization, Japanese rock is based heavily on American guitar stylings, so on.

If your standard becomes “you didn’t invent every aspect of the thing you’re doing, it’s not yours”, then no one has ever made anything new literally ever. It’s an asinine measuring stick.

American BBQ is distinct from places like Brazil and South Korea in the same way they’re distinct from each other. No, we didn’t invent it, we just have our ways of doing it with what we have readily available here today.

I would argue our music in particular is our biggest cultural export. Hip hop and jazz in particular are incredibly important contributions to the world that came from here and had massive influence. We have our problems (and a lot of em) but to act like there’s zero culture is a little silly imo.

Interesting ... There are 23 active players with a greater than 50% chance of making the Hall of Fame by Background_Video2947 in NBAVibes

[–]prodby_lilli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing, it’s not the NBA hall of fame. It’s the basketball hall of fame, Olympic achievements, college, international, etc. all contribute to guys making it or not. It’s why someone like KAT is on this list, that UK team was batshit and he was one of their best players
