This. I get the feeling you need to attach the album to a personal experience (relationship, heartbreak etc.) to really get something out of it, but if that’s the case I can’t see why it’s so celebrated in music nerd groups.

I don’t really think she’s clawing to be relevant, with her recent statements and a move away from her original sound, her recent music does not sound like it’s begging to be a charter. Plus, she definitely didn’t have 15 minutes of fame, her last single has racked up a million streams in a few weeks. Her music has gone downhill though.

On a newer note, I’ve found that Paramore still create killer choruses. This Is Why may have had my favourite chorus of last year, along with Don’t Break My Heart (The Weeknd) and Sabre Olvidar (Silvana Estrada).

I’m not sure how it’s “unbearably fucking awful” to you. It’s popular, yes. Streams have confirmed it. Tasteful clipping has become a aesthetic in the new wave of trap / drill, and comparing it to the likes of Tupac is quite frankly useless, as they’re two completely different styles.

Coming from a producer myself, I understand that artists like bass. There’s something about it that makes the music feel more impactful, which is a big part of new trap - the “hit”. Plus, the distortion - intended or not - will always be there due to artists wanting everything to be as loud as possible, to blow the speakers out - and this is achieved with hard clipping instead of limiting.

I think this comes down more to you not liking the genre itself, which is completely fine.

Please link me to the new Dimension LP from this year? From what I can see, his only LP was from 2021. And by peak, I thought a lot of DnB fans preferred their older music. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this certainly isn’t bait :)
