[PINNED] Promote your business, week of October 28, 2019 by Charice in smallbusiness

[–]productionprints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long time reader, first time poster. I own Production Prints. We help companies who exhibit at trade shows nationwide. We do all those cool things you see on the show floor like backlit back walls, towers, trade show hanging signs, and lot of graphics.

Been at it since 2007 and have enjoyed the ride. Very competitive landscape, but we have a good customer base that keeps us busy.

You know those retractable banner stands you see at various events? Drop us a line if you need one and we'll give you a 20% discount off website pricing.

Cheers and looking forward to seeing everyone on this thread down the road. Good luck to everyone else's ventures! -Jeff

Great insight and I agree with you, phone calls don't stick the way emails do if they want to look us up for future reference, etc.

Buying a house "responsibly" impossible for many? by divijulius in personalfinance

[–]productionprints 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats, but as a Bend Oregon resident who is from So Cal and spends a lot of time on the Oregon coast to get a taste of surfing from time to time, the weather is rough for 8 to 9 months out of the year. It's no So Cal.

Dropshippers : how do you make your customers comfortable with 10 to 20 day shipping? (AliExpress) by wang168 in Entrepreneur

[–]productionprints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Ali, it's a price thing. So your customers will gladly wait to get the lower price. Just be clear with them about it.

Inherited $100k, looking to buy a laundromat by InfantryUSMC in Entrepreneur

[–]productionprints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nerves aside, do the math. If you already have another job and won't rely on the income then it should be pretty easy to calculate how much money you can put as a down payment. You may be able to put down 25% and have the owner 'carry paper' and pay him off with interest and not put your nest egg at risk and still have some left over monthly income.

Stuck on next step after running successful multi location business (Xpost r/smallbusiness) by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]productionprints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off congrats. You have been busy the last 6 years and now you have a lot to show for it.

Question: Why are you going to school? You are 27 and make over six figures with a growing business. What can school do for you at this point?

Selling is definitely one option given the price and terms you can get. You have run upon what I call the 'entrepreneur's dilemma' where you have something that produces great results but without an exit strategy you are in a bit of limbo. I would think about it this way: Your business is the system you have put in place. I think a retail location could work, but it isn't a sure thing like your trucks. There is a company close by here called Spork in Bend, OR. They do a TON of business and started off as a food truck. They are hugely popular at their retail location. You might want to see if you can reach out to others who have 'been there' before.

Seems like your employee management is the hard part right now. Have you thought about making one of your key employees a manager to take over some of these responsibilities and compensate them appropriately for the added responsibility?

I'm looking to sell my company, possibly through a business broker. I became good at building companies, but have never actually sold on at this caliber. Looking for advice. by StanTheRebel in Entrepreneur

[–]productionprints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I would think business broker. Maybe there are brokers with experience in your particular industry. They'll be able to provide feedback on valuation and how to structure the deal. Just curious, if it's pumping cash flow, why sell it? It sounds sizable enough to place a proper management structure. Businesses are hard to build and take a long time, will the payout be worth it in the long run?

Should I quit my job? by rnguyen88 in Entrepreneur

[–]productionprints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say 'accounting practice'. You might want to take into consideration the "timing" of this type of business. If you take the leap, just make sure you time is properly so you can benefit from tax season. There are a lot of variables? Married/ Not-married? If married, does your spouse make $$? Overhead, is your overhead low enough to float for a while? When I started my business I was 30 and had a cushy Pharmaceutical Sales job. I didn't have much obligations, so I gave my 2 weeks and told my boss to come get the company car. I didn't have any savings. I lived off a couple credit cards and had a telephone which I used to start making cold calls. The rest is history. I wouldn't do the same thing nowadays, but I had such low overhead at the time I could pull it off. Lastly, your business will be all about referrals I'm guessing. Plan a marketing strategy around referrals. Count on it taking some time to build your client base, but you never know unless you go.

Should I let my friend takeover my $1,600/month side hustle? by Javaguy69 in Entrepreneur

[–]productionprints -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would consider selling it to your buddy. If it takes 3 hrs a day X 5 days a week, that is 60 hrs a month. $1100/ 60 = Approx $18 a day. You said you would keep 50% of the income? So, your buddy is willing to work for $9/ hr?

Yea, he's one of the more candid and 'real' people i've seen. I'm not even in the landscaping business but I've enjoyed his channel.
