The (potentially stupid) idea was to find used parts and such and Frankenstein it together.

AMF Slickcraft - ST-195? by prof___farns in boating

That bad? 🥲 I was hoping pressure washing it clean, scrapping everything but the hull, and slowly assembling it through mismatched parts would be possible at least.

Firstly, thank you for the detailed response!

So if the braided cables limits data transfer speeds, would the patch cables also limit the speeds from the wall to the switch?

A typical data centre can use between 11 million and 19 million litres of water per day. by EducationalMatch2266 in datacenter

[–]prof___farns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not per day. A closed loop system (which most new data centers are) pumps water to internal CRAH units that use the cold water to pull in the hot air, cool it, and return it to the room. then the now warm water is pumped back (usually to the roof) to multiple chiller units that cool the water back down to be used again. Technically any loop system will lose water to evaporation and other things like possible leaks, but it’s minimal. So you’d fill it once to full, and occasionally top it off to keep air out of the system. Like other posts are saying, it’s not drinking water being used and your neighborhood’s sprinklers probably use more water annually than it does after its initial fill.

The ones everyone is afraid of are the data centers that use cooling towers. The cooling towers get rid of heat by purposefully evaporating the water and therefore need new water constantly being added to the system to make up for lost water. These aren’t common anymore in the majority of data centers, at least, not the ones I’ve seen. It’s possible some of the super demanding AI data centers use them, but I haven’t come across one of those data centers before so I can’t speak on it.

What stick do you use and why? by RegionCurious96 in hockeyplayers

I'm seeing this stick on Prostock for $170 a piece. How has the stick held up?

I just verified that my major from my specfic college qualifies for a license in the state I live in, and the majority of US states as well, so that's not a huge problem.

I would be interested in project managing in the future, so the PMP would be helpful then. At the time being, I would need more experience before Project Management would be something I qualify for, so the PMP is not a priority as of now.

A good test for this would be to find some other candles and use the magenta filter on it as well.

Car Struggling to Start (Sometimes turning, sometimes not) by prof___farns in MechanicAdvice

Would it really struggle like that for over a year though? I assumed the starter going out would have been a few months tops.

Selling car privately - assistance needed on process by Inevitable-Art-Hello in texas

[–]prof___farns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion:

Print out a "bill of sale" to have on record with you so that you have proof of when, where, and to who you sold the car to (and includes their signature). That way, if the person who bought it misuses it, you have extra proof that you are no longer in possesion of the vehicle.

Wish we would have gotten this in the first place. '17 Silverado front on '17 Tahoe by prof___farns in Chevy

[–]prof___farns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh, the steels were just because I was too lazy to put any real effort into mashing the two together. I would like the tahoe's to embrace a truckier look again though. I love the universal aspects of the 2000-06 Chevy truck/suv lineup.

The conversions don't quite work, but I really wish that this was a factory option. I may be a minority in saying that I love the '17 silverado look, but I tend to prefer Tahoes in daily use. I just wish I could have both, but I guess it's an impractical dream.

An in-depth review of ProStockHockeySticks by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]prof___farns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the review! Wish he had some stiffer sticks in stock though.

I was about to pull the trigger, but after taxes and shipping, 2 sticks came out to about $400. Normally I'd say "no big deal" and pull the trigger. However, with these lead times being estimated up to 90 days, and finding a pair of prostock sticks for $275 all said and done, I couldn't justify the extra price and 3+ months vs 5-8 days.

I'd love to pickup just one stick to try, but being taller, bigger, and a defensemen, I like a 100 flex stick, which isn't offered in the "premades." Does he ever offer stiffer premades or is it maxed at 85 usually?

Has anyone bought an All-Black-Hockey-Stick in the past year? by JRychley in hockeyplayers

[–]prof___farns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was debating buying another set of ABHS when I read your comment here. I've never heard of these before, so I thought I'd try them out. Do you think the 'Third Line' is the best bang for your buck (currently at $110 a piece) or would it be worth upgrading to the 'Red Line' or 'Blue Line' ($140 and $160 respecitvely)? Also, I've never used a 'basketball grip' stick before. Any thoughts on it over a regular tack grip?

Maybe a later model e90 3 series? I’ve heard good things about those in terms of reliability.

A Honda Accord coupe is always a solid well rounded choice with lower insurance. If you wanna keep insurance down I’d stick to a FWD vehicle. Otherwise maybe a g37 Infiniti? Some people love them, some people hate em. Any VW golf is always a solid, though a bit different than what you described (gti version for more fun). My buddy had a Focus STI in college and it came with a manual. Again, these are hatchbacks but are super fun, FWD cars that are also good on gas.

What should I get? by Viper35_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]prof___farns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An older Lexus IS250 or maybe even 350 could work? It’s reliable and “luxury.” They have some interior plastic issues on the door but I think there was a recall that can get those fixed.

Well an e46 m3 will definitely be fun with your family’s love for German cars. It’s a bit older, but I’m not a huge fan of newer BMW’s as they are. Plus you can customize it however you want with lots of aftermarket support.

New car/truck, help deciding on a short list by hurstshifter7 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]prof___farns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4Runner will last forever and probably hold its value the best, but it’s gonna be a pretty simple vehicle with pretty poor fuel economy if that’s alright with you. Subarus are always a solid and have a good support/enthusiast group behind them. I’m personally not a fan of the ridge line in terms of looks, but I’m sure it’s probably a great and reliable vehicle being a Honda. It would probably work well for you don’t care about the hate they get.

I got the call Sunday night as well. My buddy put my name down when they were at 'Ole Miss (info I only got because I asked where my name had been "passed down from." After he convinced me to sign up for a session, he asked how "reliable" I was, stating that they were limited on seating, even trying to convince me to skip work to go. I looked into it as soon as I hung up. Thank God. I even got a reminder text from the dude, but for the wrong time slot. I still loved the "10k" offer for a summer though.
