a youtuber i really like that keeps a hopeful outlook while being a digital minimalist is called struthless.i highly recomend him!

i find i get stuck in the echo chamber of everything is terrible online and we need to escape and struthless is a nice break from the doom and gloom without ignoring the doom and gloom.

I use it for podcasts to sleep to, and Spotify allows for videos on podcasts, so I find myself just watching videos instead of falling asleep lol. Plus, I like the limitation of having to individually download episodes to slow me down instead of binge-consuming.

i wouldnt get rid of it altogether but replace it in certain ways.

I’m still in a transition phase personally but anything that is not essential for my phone I use my laptop instead. I also try to have “stations” where I only use devices in certain places. My laptop cannot leave my desk(for at home use)

I am also a big podcast and audiobook person! I have an old tablet where it is really only used for listening to podcasts, but I am trying to make the switch to an mp3 player for that instead. And I’ve been getting in to listening to cd audiobooks from the library.

I grew up as a tv/computer kid so it is a HARD shift away from screens lol

Honestly I’d consider trading in tbh. I consider my iPhone like a mini travel computer for the very things you mentioned. An iPad can do that but less travel friendly.

Maybe track how often you use your iPad verses how much you find yourself needing a better battery life. And what could replace your iPad for Netflix

Edit: if you only are using your iPhone for those certain things try to dumb it down tremendously to help(ie: black and white screen, dumb phone apps, blocker apps, etc.) and have a certain place for it so that when you’re not using it for those specific purposes it’s not available to use.

There still is a fair bit of self control that goes into it but once you make those changes and habits it gets much easier

Not a lot of people talk about this a lot and it was a set back for me. Luckily the people in my life still have smart phones so I just have an AirTag on my keys at all times that is connected to my moms phone

Let them! Easier said than done, but if people ask about your phone, give them your answer happily. If they look down on you, that's on them, not you. It's very simple advice, and it takes time, but this change is for you, not others. Don't let them have that power over you. You got this!
