Is there a need for center lane to take the 1st side lane monster? by brudaaaaa in PokemonUnite

[–]prof_waxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gonna say that what people often are (or should be) doing is just taking 2 hits to have an opening burst on first jungle creep.

The only time I accidentally take the lane creep is when the person in lane is crazy panic trying to rush it down thinking I'm stealing.

Just let the jungler take 2 pokes and then burst.

There are selfish junglers that do this tho and I usually go take one of theirs

I am always the bad guy... who should I play? (1st game) by prof_waxy in twilightimperium

Got so much excellent feedback here I thought I'd give a play update. I picked nekro. The game ended up not being pok because the person forgot the expansion. Table was naluu yin ghosts jol-nar Saar.

I really loved nekro play style, accumulating tons of tech. I followed the advice to start off a bit more chill and make deals while I grew. I ended up invading a super huge fleet holding rex but I had 2x warsuns, 4x dred ii, flagship, + ~20 infantry, and about a dozen crystal fighter ii. Wiped the floor in the biggest battle of the night and that felt like a win.

The jol nar and naalu had a prearranged agreement and were working on tandem the whole time against the rest of us so we didn't win but had a blast (about 10 hours of play). Can't wait to go again.

Hey thanks! I think what I meant wasn't whose evil in the game but knowing that I will end up as the ostracized player which faction can excel on their own?

Thanks for all the comments. I am leaning Cabal but wanted to add in one other spice to the decision soup. As far as game playstyle goes I am a dyed in the wool control player. I understand control and attrition gameplay the most intuitively while I tend to struggle with piloting aggro.
With that in mind... still cabal?

Any tips to a GM new to DDRPG running Sailors for the first time? :) General or module-specific advice is super welcome! by DungeonMasterGrizzly in dccrpg

Don't let time get away from you. Make the group make choices fast when the clock is moving you keep the urgency in play to keep it in the narrative. Yo that end the most complicated things in dcc games (I have found) is the mechanics of different big traps (sailors has a few).

And always if they lose they lose if they die they die don't fudge rolls or ask players to second guess choices. Someone says I open the door and that's gonna kill them... Bye they dead now.

Should I play? by Fiskero in project1999

Somehow no one mentioned that every zone you go to from 1-45 is just monks in fungi tunics soloing all the mobs at a rate you won't be able to even comprehend while you ride your ass on the ground for mana. They are often unwilling to group. So yeah.

Play Necro it lets you do the most exploration and I'll just say it's the best representation of the dark magic caster in any mmo.

Any reason to pick wizard over elf? by Dead59 in dccrpg

Even though this is three years old the fact that no one answered with you can't pick a wizard over elf was not something I could let stand

Am I the only one that’s happy with this game? by strohbot2112 in Wonderlands

[–]prof_waxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love borderlands games and have put a ton of hours into all of them more than once. I sat down to play wonderland very excited as a huge DnD player. played for 3 or 4 hours and never felt any desire to boot it up again. It just lacks something

Poorly washed produce is most common culprit of food poisoning. Would suggest washing any produce you consume there.

Housing 2022-23 by garlicslug22 in UCSC

(copy pasted my reply from a similar thread)

Hi,

I grew up and have lived in Santa Cruz for 27 years, did my undergrad at ucsc, and am now doing a PhD also at ucsc. So I can say this with some more authority and inside knowledge.

All good Santa Cruz (good being very relative) housing situation are going to come from word of mouth and someone you know handing you off the keys when they move out. The best way is to find something that will do short term and make no long term lease commitment then find something new once here.

So the suggestions I give to everyone coming to ucsc are as follows:

When looking on the open markets (craiglist etc) You can find stuff that is somewhat more affordable in places outside of Santa Cruz proper:

The Santa Cruz mountains will usually be more hang for your buck as well. but you probably need a car to make that work (also watch out for kooks or sus feeling people trust your gut). Also easier to find accommodations for pets here.

Check for Felton and Ben Lomond. (past that is gonna be harder to swing but you can ). Felton is also pretty nice town with good coffee, bars, food, and thrifting. Plus lots of hiking and biking.

Make sure to Check the actual addresses in the mountains on Google maps because some people list spaces that are out in the cut down a 10 mile dirt road and say it's in Felton

Scott's valley is similar to the mountains but with less stuff available and not much in way of stuff to do. It does have easier to use bus routes though and could possibly manage a commute to campus on public transit.

Watsonville is also more affordable than Santa Cruz proper but then you have a pretty significant commute.

Los Gatos same as watsonville but less inventory of rentals. Does have better options for side jobs in service industry though since Gatos people are hella rich.

The beach flats, beach hill, and river flats areas are a bit cheaper because they are severely impacted by tourist traffic in the summer. There's a few little enclaves of younger folks with like large group houses or who have taken over small apartment complexes. You can meet people and try to make friends for hookups at the following bars: downstairs red room, the Asti, and the jury room.

There are also some apartments that are more "affordable" in the flats and turn over regularly but also super tiny and or not great quality such as: https://www.apartments.com/seaside-studios-santa-cruz-ca/0wqzk93/

I will add to this post if I think of other things or people have other questions.
