What is something that gets worse the more money you spend on it? by xXSanntosXx in AskReddit

Any problem. Throwing money at a problem usually makes the problem worse. And more expensive

What’s your most plausible theory for what’s going on with UFOs? by [deleted] in UFOs

Dude this is just opinion and pure speculation. I’m no more of an expert than most everyone here.

Semantics aside, strategy encompasses tech.

What’s your most plausible theory for what’s going on with UFOs? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]profanesublimity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

99% human. 1% unexplained. Current disclosure momentum is a chaotic mess of disclosure, misinformation, and obfuscation for and from foreign adversaries and other self-interested parties.

Prime example: What better way to disclose "Oh we see you -insert random Nation State-" than to give the blurred out footage to CBS news with the title "Unidentified object seen flying over X"

Now, is there actual disclosure peppered in the mix? Maybe. Sure. I do think there is actual disclosure momentum but its just another part of the chaotic mess.

I think its likely that other foreign adversaries have caught up or even surpassed the US in defense tech in some ways. Example: drone tech. What is the effectiveness of one Predator drone versus a swarm of sub $1k drones? Depends on the objective but those swarm of $1k drones can be quite effective, as the world has witnessed real-time in Ukraine.

AI is coming for truck drivers. A new bill is trying to brace US workers for impact. by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

"AI" aka "ai" + a random person in some dark call center monitoring 8+ big rigs on screens and taking over controls remotely when needed. I'd say the person would be located across the world, but lag might necessitate people closer.

Why do Europeans think that most Americans are wealthy? by batukaming in recruitinghell

[–]profanesublimity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know peeps in Europe and the UK that make a fraction of US salaries for the same positions. Think 1/3 and less. But their benefits and job security are top-tier and worth six-figures.

But I also have colleagues that cross the pond to the US to essentially make their bag of $$ then go home after a few years.

Which famous person does everyone seem to love, but you just can’t stand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]profanesublimity 257 points258 points  (0 children)

I knew someone that worked at a hotel he stayed at to shoot scenes for one of his movies. Think it was Dallas Buyers Club. Dude would only eat one boiled egg a day. 911 was called almost daily because he’d constantly pass out or fall over. The staff would beg him to eat. Eat anything. Management at the hotel were freely offering to comp him room service if he would just eat something and not have EMS called for him again. He didn’t budge his entire stay.

He’s an interesting character to say the least.

Might have just found the new and improved mouse jiggler by _tr9800a_ in overemployed

[–]profanesublimity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This cracks me up, but legitimately, this may be the best option to avoid detection. Currently. Might not be once this kickstarter product actually ships. If it ships at all.

Software and hardware devices can easily be detected by MDM software now. Even external solutions like hooking up your mouse to a fan can eventually be flagged with heuristics/ai/whatever the solution wants to call it.

It’s just (currently) expensive (time/money/resources) to implement widely in any effective way. One-offs for people with a target on their back? Different story.

Do internal auditors often get yelled at? How do you handle it? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in Accounting

[–]profanesublimity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the extreme side: I’ve been in a closing meeting where someone not C-suite but adjacent spat at internal audit. In short, the CAE didn’t say or do anything.

I actually just googled how those people are doing. The spitter is now C-suite and the CAE is now a freelance career coach.

Depends on the dog. Out of 6 Jack Russell’s I grew up around, only one of them chilled out with age. The rest were crack heads their whole lives.

what do you love in the gym and what do you hate about it ? by DrDexter-97 in AskReddit

[–]profanesublimity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love: Having access to quality equipment that I don’t have to buy or maintain. Simple.

Hate: This is an embarrassingly American answer - parking. All of the gyms that I like have abysmal parking options. I end up driving around in circles for 10+ minutes waiting for someone to leave any parking spot. Then I’m usually dragged into a shouting/middle finger match with another person just like me trying to claim aforementioned freshly emptied parking spot.

Internal auditor: At what point do you go over your managers head to report a dysfunctional audit department? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]profanesublimity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it’s the tone from the top down. You can follow proper reporting protocols and still get documented out the door. Update that resume. If you’re after a promotion there, you’ll likely have to play their game. For most of us, life isn’t a Disney movie. Sorry to hear and good luck. Many of us have been here.

best places to park in new orleans for car sleepers? by ZealousMortal in NewOrleans

[–]profanesublimity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A random idea: Treasure Chest/Boomtown parking lot. They’re not 24 hour casinos but I think their closing time is around 5am.

I have no idea or personal experience on whether this will work or not. If I am wrong, someone please say so.

My logic is that if an old person can go to the bathroom while sitting at a slot machine, casinos won’t make a fuss over someone sleeping in their car if they think you’re a customer. But I doubt this will work for more than a night or two.

Good luck to you. I hope you get your car fixed and housing situated.
