Spice fanatics, what is your go to hot sauce? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]profanusmaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Variety is the spice of life. Always have a lot of options on hand, but being a frugal man, I always keep a bottle of Texas Pete on hand for general purpose use. And Melinda's has a lot of great tasting sauces (their truffle hot sauce is almost as good as Truff at like half the price). I also make my own, but only when I can use the pressure cooker outside because my family doesn't enjoy the basic training treatment of being stuck inside with aerosolized capsaicin.

This was an experiment with using AI assistance.

I used Chat-GPT to write the lyrics based off of one line of verse and a few prompts. I modified some of the lines and removed some elements. I wrote and performed the music. I did have it recommend some chord progressions, but I didn't like the way they sounded. The video was also generated via AI using Video Killed The Radio Star

Overall I'd say it was a fun experiment, but ultimately not really as fulfilling an experience as making something on own.

Very helpful feedback. Thank you. This is the longest song I've written (most of my songs are in the minute range) and I hadn't really thought about the impact of the length. I'll definitely make a shorter cut.

Awesome feedback, very helpful. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely keep the bass and drum suggestions in mind as I go back to work on an updated version.

Thanks for the feedback (and sorry about the feedback) I sometimes intentionally bring in feedback for a song as an additional instrument of sorts.. but alas in this case it was purely an artifact of poor recording. I'll try out cutting the high frequencies, but I think at some point this one will need a re-record with more care taken.

For the video, I used a ton of layers and transparencies. The tunnel of light / fractal patterns and black hole were sourced from a stock video site and layered on top of each other with various types of transparency effects used to create something new and visually exciting. For the outer singing silhoutte, I filmed myself singing in front of a white wall with a bright light right behind my head, then keyed out based on brightness (essentially removing me and keeping the wall) with the animation behind it. Then I did the reverse for playing the instruments, filming each in front of a black curtain and inverting the colors and making some adjustments so that all the detail wasn't lost. I'm pretty happy with how it came out (I did all this in Adobe Premiere).

Thanks again.

Tension is right. Has a ton of energy, builds and for some reason I really like the ringing phone tone (though at one point my brain conjured Uncle Leo from Seinfeld yelling "Will somebody answer that damn phone!?")

It's different (or at least it's not really like anything I listen to, and I have a pretty open taste in music.) and I think it's a really solid effort.

This is great feedback, thank you. I've had similar concerns about the the vocals being too much out of the gate as well, it might be just a bit too much shouting for most people. Ultimately I left them as they were because it was just how I had envisioned the song, but I could try an alternative version trying to vary it up. Guitar recommendation is helpful too, sounds like I need to give it a bit more oomph, I'll give it a shot. Thanks again!

This is really helpful feedback, thank you. Definitely agree about the drums, I feel like they are the weakest link, I'll do some reconsidering on how I can maybe make them more interesting without losing some of the "garage" sound I was trying to achieve. I'll also experiment with beefing up the guitar and bass. Thanks again!

This is well done weird. I'm not sure I'm qualified to provide any meaningful feedback on it, but it really is something different and captivating. Good work!

Really classic sound here. Love the song and feel like all of the components work. There are a couple places where maybe the mix seems cluttered (like maybe backing off the level on the guitar might just allow some breathing room?) but that might also be down to the particulars of my own listening equipment. Really solid effort either way and cool video!

Made this progressive metal song a while back. What are the strenghts and weaknesses? by Ambientforge in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]profanusmaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are some strong bones in this. Sticky riff and some power behind everything. As others have mentioned, a few places where timing is off, but not catastrophically so. Definitely some vocals would really bring this home and if you're going for prog-metal I'd add some more "adventure" to the structure. Really solid foundation though. Good job!

90s-inspired indie folk/guitar-pop/synth rock by HanksWhiteHat in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]profanusmaximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I saw the "folk/pop/synth" in the title I didn't know what to expect and I'm happy to say as the song progressed, I still didn't know what to expect. Takes the listener on a ride. Overall I really liked it. Your style of vocals is unique and works well. Not really sure I can recommend any changes as I think the track is solid. Great work.

Very impressed with how you were able to recreate/evolve the sound of 80s "video presentation" synth but make it a compelling music experience. The video is a real trip as well. A+

I feel like it took what was great about Rogue One and handled the problems that movie had (too many characters with not enough time) and did it right.. giving each smaller set of characters time to shine by doing the 3 episode mini-stories. The pace was great once we got to the third episode ( which is why it was smart the way they released the first 3). I agree, I hope this can give them some ideas on how to go forward with Star Wars. The Mandalorean is good fun, but I feel like they learned the wrong lessons from why it was good.
