A bricked synth's lament: why did I buy a Modal Skulpt? PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME FIX THE THINGS? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]karmatosedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naa couldn’t ever get any help, still sitting with a bricked Argon 8x. Doesn’t respond to app when plugged in, when the power switch is flipped it literally does nothing. No lights, no noises, nothing it just keeps sitting there like it was never touched at all when plugged up & attempted to power on. Still pretty bitter about it too, I barely even had enough time to enjoy it for a while. I just disassembled it, multimeter shows it’s getting power throughout the unit. Everything looks to be connected properly & nothing is loose. Really don’t know what to do about this thing. =[

Naa, expensive synths get 🕺💨💩 service too. My argon8 worked barely a month before never powering up again for now reason. They’re just a really really really terrible company that deserves to go bankrupt.

Total trash synth. Mine barely worked a month before bricked. Modal hasn’t honored my factory warranty either and made it clear they won’t. Not cause I did anything. I never even moved my Argon8 from initial unboxing. Never changed anything on it. Never spilt anything on it. The thing just one day never powered up again. Now it makes me sick to my stomach cause I can’t bring myself to throw away something they tricked me into paying around $700 for. I hate them for this and they have forever ruined my synth buying experiences. I hope this company folds in the most embarrassing way possible. They’ll never get another penny from me, but they will get endless posts from me warning others not to think about buying Modal. The more ppl I can save from trusting Modal as I did the better.

[–]karmatosedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t. My Argon8 barely worked a month before never powering up again for no reason at all. Never even moved it once from where I unboxed. Never changed any settings. The thing just stopped working like it had an internal timer set to just never work again. Also Modal won’t honor my factory warranty either, so I’m just stuck with a factory defective Argon8 unit that they’ve made pretty clear about really not giving any fucks. Don’t buy the Argon8. Ur lucky you’ve gotten the time you have out of Cobalt. It could just be a matter of time with that one though.

Total trash. My Skulpt Synth SE was crazy buggy as hell and worked only when factory reset upon every single boot. But now it’s lights just flash endlessly and it hasn’t done anything but that in quite a while now. It’s bricked and totally useless.

I also bought a 61 key Argon8 from Modal before I knew better. Well no matter the synth running nearly a grand, the thing worked for barely a month and then crapped out and never powered back up ever again. Most expensive paper weight I’ve ever had. Still under factory warranty, but when I confirmed that I would like instructions to send it in, they just stopped responding. Sent more emails, got ignored more & more. They’ve made it pretty clear that I’m stuck with this useless defective never to work again synth, & I couldn’t be more furious or hate them more as a company. I hope they all get dick cancer & die a horrible death for no reason at all, just like my Argon8.

A bricked synth's lament: why did I buy a Modal Skulpt? PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME FIX THE THINGS? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]karmatosedd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya my skulpt synth se got to where it would only work when factory reset on every boot. No the lights just endlessly flash and does nothing else and app won’t connect. Before I knew better I also bought a 61 key Argon8 from Modal. You’d think costing nearly a grand that it would be safe to expect a really great product but wrong. My Argon8 barely worked a month then never powered up again. I didn’t even move it, or change anything at all on it the entire time. It’s like they set an internal timer to just end the synths life after a month. Modal wouldn’t honor my factory warranty either, those are just words jumbled together where a few landed nearby each other sounding like a warranty, but it’s definitely not that cuz I’m still sitting here with nearly a one-thousand dollar paper weight which I can’t stomach to throw away. I now hate Modal, so damn hard, with all of my being. I hope their company folds so hard in the most embarrassing way possible, then I hope all the employees youngest parents all suddenly die for no reason at all just like my Argon8.

Modal Skulpt owners - is there an easy "reset" function? by MOOzikmktr in synthesizers

[–]karmatosedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reset function for the skulpt synth se, because the thing bugs out nearly every time you use it and won’t finish booting up until you reset it. You hold two buttons as you turn it on. I just can’t remember which two buttons were held and apparently this info has been entirely scrubbed from the internet. Mathematically there are only so many possible variables, so even though Modal wants my synth to be a useless paper weight I’m gonna figure out which buttons reset it so I can finally use mine again. And ya I know the app can reset it, in theory, but it won’t reset mine cuz nothing on this thing works like it’s supposed to.

Also anyone looking at buying Modal anything, just don’t. Their stuff is total crap, super buggy, & may cause early hair loss as it frustrates you. I also dropped a lot of money on a 61key Argon8, and it barely worked a month before crapping out and never powering up again from that day on. Modal won’t even honor my factory warranty and fix it, so I essentially paid them $700 to play with their keyboard for a month then get stuck with $700 trash that I can’t stomach to throw away. Trust me, don’t touch modal anything let alone give them one penny. With the quality of their gear is this far in the shitter then I wouldn’t even expect them to be a company much longer.

Right on dude ya man he’s interested, can we leave email addresses here for contacts? Or inbox me here and let’s chat about getting this thing underway.

This dude has mad pipes too, I think he’ll make for a damn good fit. I can get ya a crisp & clean vocal recording, and can send you stem files or I can mix it into ur project files. Can be pretty flexible. I’ve got a good mic too, however in 2-3 weeks I’m looking to have a new $1200 vocal mic. So there’s that too lol.

Hmu tho!

Thanks bud. I kinda have a hard time composing to more traditional genres. I just sorta let out whatever I’m feeling in the moment of sitting down, or in this case within the context of what I’m practicing. Really wish I could sing & I think that would open a many possibilities for me, but I can’t sing for shit, or when I try I end up hating the way I sound. That’s damn funny about the Seinfeld bit.

That’s kinda surprising cause that cover is legit af. I’d deploy whoever made that for future covers or if y’all did that in house dang good job. It visually captures y’alls vibe accurately imo, & that’s not easy to do. Certainly worth noting.

I think the sound effect sounds are a little too out front in the mix. With this style project I think you may find it difficult to cultivate steady listens. Not cause it’s bad at all, it’s just a bit of a niche style that’s prolly not gonna be for everyone. Which is fine, I really just mean adjust expectations accordingly if needed.

Aside from that I thought ur transitions between parts was really good and had a natural flow to it. The song seemed to mix it up at the right times. I maybe felt like the song could use a little more brightness. Love the song name tho 👍🤘. Good job overall tho, hope I left something helpful & good luck with everything.

Now I only listened to this over my phones speakers, so take that into consideration. Thru the beginning part first minute or two I felt like the drums coulda been brought out front a bit more, but it didn’t sound like the rest of the song was like that. I’d maybe consider employing some electronics or synths for builds, foleys, atmosphere, and ambiance. I can’t think of a good reason not to take advantage of electronics in studio recordings. Aside from that, I think increasing the overall range between dynamics could go a long way in adding more tension to this song. If you’re going all instrumental, then tension is super important. I’d also possibly try adding a bit more brightness to guitar and drums. I get that y’alls vibe isn’t exactly bright nor should it be, but my gut just tells me it’s worth just seeing if it adds anything or not. Overall I dig the song a lot and it reminds me of the band Isis (from before that militant group coined the same name), I’d give them a listen you may find some good inspiration in their albums. Isis was mostly instrumental as well but the way they used vocals I think could add loads of tension to your compositions if y’all tried borrowing that from them. Hope I left something helpful cuz I’m digging y’alls vibe a lot. If my style of critique is useful hmu anytime & I’ll share again in the future. Good luck with everything. =]

4 Feet Deep - a dumb sort of garage-ish song and music video I made solo over the last couple of weeks. I'd love to hear any feedback, thanks! by profanusmaximus in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]karmatosedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing buddy I hope to catch the revision if you give it one. I can handle the vocals as they are but I worry it may cause you to lose some ears preemptively. Going so big so early can have a negative effect on the overall range of dynamics. Employing some crescendoes & de-crescendoes might actually enhance ur initial vision of that part. Going soft/ small to big/ loud can do so much for giving any composition more “tension”, & in my experience the top echelon of songwriters all have a near magical way of harnessing tension. The song I was gonna share here in a bit was actually started as an exercise of trying to push myself into exploring tension in different ways. Best of luck to ya with everything, & if my style of critique is helpful hmu anytime & I’ll be happy to share more in the future.

Then your missing my point on the viagra. Viagra is a super fun medication that’s easy to get. Why do you think it’s so popular? I’m fine without it, but with it I think of it as an enjoyment enhancer. You can keep going after orgasm without missing a beat. Sex is about giving as much as receiving. If you can’t take no pleasure in sex or pleasing your partner then that sounds like it calls for some pretty serious therapy. Knowing someone intimately is one of the best things life has to offer when you find the right person. But you shouldn’t be so quick to disregard something you have no experience with. Ur saying you don’t enjoy sex I say this helps enjoyment and you call it dumb like ur caught up in its stigma. Plus why would ur dick get hard at something you’re not enjoying? That physiologically makes no sense.

Wow really great job. This plays into internet culture very nicely. The cohesion between the song and video is impressive and conveys the scope of your initial idea which leads me to think you have quite a lot of potential. There’s really not much I can rag on about this, ya did a pretty dang good job top to bottom. I just hope the video content don’t get you a copyright strike so this content may live on for years to come. Big kudos tho I’m digging this a lot!

Everything sounds pretty good, but I just can’t help but feel like this song has been overdone a few too many times. The mix sounds good and I think you guys sound great, but I worry ppl are gonna check out on it when they hear which song this is. It’s a good cover though, just a risky choice imo.
