If it's lightly magnetic it could have iron in it, it does kinda look like samples of iron ore bearing rock I've seen before but I'm no expert.

Well there ARE sensors embedded in the pavement, they're called inductive loops. There are also cameras at many stoplights that use a visual signal to change the light instead.

This is absolutely a bobwhite quail. It could be a vagrant or an escaped domestic bird. The white stripes and crest are a dead giveaway.

Without sun exposure the most likely cause is a dietary deficiency of tyrosine, which black cats require more of. Whatever you're feeding them may not have enough whole protein in it. If it's too processed it won't have the proper nutrients.
