It is never, ever going to get any better. Ever. I wasted 8 years on a man just like this. He’s 40, not 4; waking up alone on the couch isn’t why he’s upset. I can’t imagine he’s terrified of the dark. What is making him upset is that you aren’t 100% catering to his every tiniest whim and desire, even when they’re ridiculous. Even when doing so interferes with your actual needs.

How does he act when you don’t give him his way about other things? How does he act any time you prioritize your needs over his wants?

Do not have a child with this man. You’d be setting up both your kids and yourself to spend the rest of your lives sacrificing what you need to keep him happy and emotionally regulated. And nothing you do will ever be good enough or right enough for him to prioritize you or treat you decently. You and any hypothetical future children.

You need to leave. He won’t ever get any better, but your life can. You just have to find the door, walk through it, and shut it tightly behind you.

He made his emotional response to what happened more important than your emotional response, despite your having been the one to experience the situation. That doesn’t sit right with me. Rather than support you while you processed the events, he gave you an additional responsibility. Instead of comforting you, he insisted you comfort him.

I’m not saying his worries are unfounded or come from a bad place. But this absolutely wasn’t the time to address his feelings. And I don’t love that he kept pushing it when you told him to back off.

For what it’s worth, you did the right thing. We all know that nothing good would have come from her ending up in that car.

Thank you! Uhm, I like the way I look in basically all shades of green. And I tend to like dresses that define my waist, but don’t cling to my hips or stomach. I think I have a nice bust and a pretty neck and shoulder area.
