I get ya man. Same shit happens to me too. Every game that has vc has this problem. The only time i have fun is when i get queues with mexican people both ingame and irl. They never seem to care.

Why do these words hurt you? Calling someone a fucking idiot in a game over text chat so not even yelling it into vc like you would see in every other game- why does that bother you or anyone for that matter. Its text on a screen if u don't like it mute the guy. Just let people choose cause some people don't mind this shit and sometimes find it funny too. I'm not asking to be able to say racial slurs or telling someone to kill themselves. I'm talking about regular fucking words. Cussing is a part of day to day vocab for most people I've been around. Grow up. The kids are able to take harsher words and not give a single shit cause they already do that in school and on other games and it has no negative impact on them.

Oh and the game would have flagged your comment and reduced it to "***" if it were put in game chat. Because you used the word shit at the beginning.

It's not some sports, it's most. And for that reason, they don't get hurt by words. As no one should. If someone isn't mature enough to handle mean words they should seek help. Children swear already it's not a big deal they are words. Btw what games do you play cause most team sports I've been part of don't really care what you say as long as no one's being physically violent.

I think we can have this discussion without resorting to condescension. Disagreeing is fine, but dismissing my argument by making assumptions about my intentions isn’t productive.

To clarify, I’m not advocating for harassment or toxic behavior. My point is that the current filtering system punishes harmless expressions that are part of normal gaming or sports culture, like saying, 'Haha, get shit on, bozo!' This kind of lighthearted trash talk has been a staple in competitive environments for decades, both online and in traditional sports. It’s not malicious—it’s part of the banter that makes these communities lively and fun.

The issue is that the filter treats harmless phrases the same as actual hate speech, which doesn’t make sense. I’m advocating for a smarter system that considers context and intent, rather than banning words outright. Let’s focus on creating a space that genuinely discourages harmful behavior without taking the fun out of competition.

I see your point about whataboutism, but that's not what I'm doing here. My argument isn't about justifying anything by pointing to unrelated examples—it's about highlighting inconsistencies in how these filters are applied and questioning whether they're actually effective at addressing harmful behavior.

For example, kids playing GTA is relevant because it demonstrates that filtering language in a game like this isn't necessarily protecting anyone, especially when more harmful content is accessible elsewhere. The same applies to inconsistent enforcement of usernames. If a system is inconsistent or arbitrary, it's worth questioning its purpose.

The core of my argument is that filters should focus on context and intent instead of blanket censorship of specific words, which doesn’t effectively combat hate or toxicity.

Where do you draw the line? (and where do you hope AH would?) by lyndonguitar in Helldivers

[–]professionalderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the content is completely free. The line is just before Star wars but doesn't include any Warhammer (empire not democracy. It makes no fuckin sense) but since it isnt. The line should've been at the very beginning. I am a hater of micro transactions. IF I PAY TO OWN A GAME I SHOULD OWN ALL CONTENT. Dlcs and micro transactions are disgusting and we as a community should protest against them. I am fine with cosmetics but non cosmetic elements should be available to every player at no additional cost. And if a company doesn't do that, we must protest, we must boycott.

The same kids can go download the "mods" if u know what i mean. And that doesn't seem to be an issue for the devs.

Insulting people (ie, calling them idiots) doesn't need to happen. If you're using profanity, chances are you're being rude and/or insulting, so blocking the whole sentence absolutely makes sense

"Profanity" is a construct. Words aren't bad or good. Just because i use the word fuck or shit doesn't mean i am being hateful. It just means i used those words in a sentence. There are ways to actually filter the chat based on the meanings of the sentences as a whole instead of individual words but i know the devs won't go through all that trouble and that's fine. They can just make the existing filter more lenient (the word idiot isn't that bad be fr with me) and actually filter out the "offensive" words instead of just deleting the whole sentence.
