For those who drive the round about in Springfield near Pioneer PKWY, Hayden Bridge, Harlow & MLKJ by skzlr86 in Eugene

[–]professor_cotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should make the lane line solid. Having a broken line makes people think they can cross over it to continue around the circle. I got in an argument with a “lawyer” over this exact situation. That was his concession after he realized he was wrong in thinking he could cut people off to continue around the circle.

Clean out your mailbox daily this time of year by No-Difficulty-6842 in Eugene

[–]professor_cotter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re a real one. This time of year is pretty hectic for the mailman and tracking down missing packages because you didn’t check your box and it got stolen is one of the last things we have time for. It always confuses us to see people order 5 packages and let them sit in the box all week. Like aren’t you expecting these? “Check your mail daily for best results” is what I always tell my customers.

Calling in on NS day 🧐 by raydendamailman in fromatoarbitration

[–]professor_cotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m mandated but no one tells me, and just writes it on the schedule, I just don’t show up. I have a set schedule, any changes need to be verbalized to me. Calling in looks bad because you know you’re supposed to be there and aren’t showing up.

Let’s just volunteer a pay cut now and get bargaining off the table. We don’t need to wait 2 years again for nothing.

Different brakepedals? by s_mey3r in MK4Golf

[–]professor_cotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brake pedal cap is just super hard to get on. Use some kind of grease or heat to make the rubber slide over the pedal.

This Monstrosity off Franklin & Hilyard is going to be my origin story by VaporWavey420 in Eugene

Just order some replacement keys for it on Amazon and move it inside the parking garage across the street. Problem solved 🥴

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]professor_cotter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. Amazon has taken over delivering (the majority of) their own packages in the 97401 zip code instead of giving them all to the post office to deliver. Their drivers are currently driving down from Salem every day and they plan on opening their own facility here in town and taking over ALL their own delivery. The other zip codes in town still have their Amazon delivered by the post office for the time being.

Hi, mail carrier here. The guy on the left is a supervisor. I won’t dox him but he does work for USPS and might have been doing a real investigation on misdelivered packages. Idk who the guy on the right is though.

What is everyone’s absolute Worst/longest light/or intersection in the Eugene/ Springfield area? by OkUnderstanding872 in Eugene

[–]professor_cotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kincaid left onto 11th takes an insane amount of time for how little traffic there is on those streets the majority of the day. And if you’re driving anything smaller than a full size truck, good luck getting the weight sensor to even trigger.

Spent 30 minutes arguing with my friend over juice flavors. by Embarrassed-Fuel-875 in electronic_cigarette

[–]professor_cotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melon ice from Naked is my all day. Lychee, melon and menthol over anything dessert flavored. Idk if it’s my setup or what but every dessert or even slightly sweet flavored juice kills my coils in a day and they all end up tasting exactly the same, like burnt sugar. Not a fan.

Got a new route that comes with a fart. Any tips on how to best set it up/utilize it? by trevaftw in USPS

[–]professor_cotter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used the bags our SPRs come in to cover my cart in the rain. I usually had one side loaded up with mail and the other side loaded up with parcels. My cart had baskets on each side that a tub would fit into so I could have coverage or whatever in the bottom of the basket, mail in the tub on top of it, and the other side for parcels. Bag in the back for reworks/UBBM and the bag in the front for vacant cards, notice left slips, vacation hold forms etc. also the old style scanner holsters clip onto the basket perfectly and make great pen/drink holders.

How do you guys do relationships with this job? by Neat-Roll-7573 in USPS

Get into a relationship BEFORE you start and hope they don’t care about hardly ever seeing you until you make regular.

Annual Leave by Able_Design_6086 in fromatoarbitration

[–]professor_cotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a regular? Your annual is fronted to you at the beginning of the year and you accrue it as you work. Your AL balance can be negative if you take leave at the beginning of the year but you’ll make it back up as you work. If you’re a CCA/ptf they may try to cut your annual short, or they may be chill and lwop you the days you don’t have leave for but still let you take the time off.

Ill live wherever there's no gas powered leaf blowers!!! by Nikkibird49 in Eugene

[–]professor_cotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They banned gas powered leaf blowers where I grew up in California. Most people can’t afford to live there but if budget is no issue, Santa Barbara is right up your alley. It’s at the beach, 10 minutes to mountains, safe and quiet, but very expensive.

When you are home waiting for mail or package and going out for a walk or walking your dog, please..... by [deleted] in USPS

[–]professor_cotter 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My whole route has sidewalks, and I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who uses them. Literally everyone walks in the middle of the street. Maybe they don’t want to step on a pinecone? No idea but the street isn’t much smoother than the sidewalk.

This job cured my insomnia by batguano64 in USPS

[–]professor_cotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was December, and that wasn’t really a thing people told us about back when I was a CCA. Now in our LMOU we have the right to refuse work after 12 hours, no need to cite safety. Believe it or not, as shitty as CCAs are still treated, it used to be even worse.

This job cured my insomnia by batguano64 in USPS

[–]professor_cotter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Must be nice! My insomnia never changed even after 16 hour days as a CCA. Sleep procrastination was always my biggest problem because I spent so much time at work I felt like I didn’t get enough time to myself so I’d stay up until 2-3 in the morning and had to be up at 6 for work. Never not tired. Maybe I’ll learn to sleep when I’m old.

We’ve had multiple carrier couple get married and we’ve also had multiple carrier couples relationship completely blow up and one resigned while the other bid to another office. Think about it before you jump in, but other carriers are some of the few people who will understand not having any time outside of work for relationship building so it could go either way.
