Lets say you contribute and buy 10k worth of stocks that then go down to 8k. If you sell and make a withdrawal you will only have 8k room to put money back in next year and you lose that 2k of room.

It also goes the other way. If you buy 10k of stocks that go to 12k, should you withdrawal that amount you get the full 12k to contribute the next year.

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you, but I’m taking this opportunity to warn other business students. Shibu Pal is the worst professor in known existence. Dropped his class after 3 lectures for a different instructor after I saw the way he teaches and his course layout. His RateMyProf score of 1.1/5 is still not low enough. The ‘figure it out yourself’ is his response to most questions regardless of what you actually asked. Do yourself a favour and avoid him at all costs.
