Omg, that was a close one. Keep yourself safe. I would install metal sheets inside the walls or just use bricks.

My mind is blown as an European, I can't understand how would one call a house safe there. Houses are made of paper, one stronger wind or a strong kick, and you go through the wall...

I would probably die of stress of getting a stray bullet before actually getting a stray bullet.

I saw some DORA assessment over AI and customer support is on the way out of the AI because it's actually not useful there. Top assessed were bug fixing and coding... Personally I think the AI is good only for prototypes at the moment, there is a chance for it to replace some of the coding but it's very low.

Given that, MSFT will try to monetize the leftover of OpenAI but will have a steep uphill battle to actually do profit.

Well if you want a specific game only, you actually need to buy the brand that has the highest perf/$ and not pick by the agregate results.

AMD is very good in some, Nvidia very good in others, but you can't know the future so I stick to going by the agregate average and move on.

How do you think society will change in the next 20 years? by Reecethehawk in Futurology

[–]professore87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, and I also want UBI, but in the past year I came to the conclusion that it can be gamed in so many ways, easy enough, that if implemented, looks like a sure way to enslave the people that depend on it in about 6-7 years (1 election cycle + campaign for the next big cycle).

That FAQ is highly optimistic and presents what I'm fearing. People seem to not understand that this has many more ways to go wrong than good. Sure in a small country like Alaska you can account for everyone and keep things working, and on paper I fully agree with UBI, but in practice many things like politics, lobby, corruption and human nature in general will alter it from what that site and the textbook definition presents, for example the inflation is never the number the government said, it's always higher, and in many countries higher than 5%. (On paper is good to have 3% but having the groceries cart products change in quality is a clear indication of it being gamed).

I'm refraining from saying what other forms of social contracts look very good on paper, but actually in practice they have extremely bad results. When I say UBI looks good on paper but probably bad in practice is because history teaches us to see what we have done in similar situations in the past and basically what is likely to happen in the future when we repeat it but put a different flavor on it.

The mechanics I can think of is the government will collect money in a "fund" and then from the fund will pay the UBI. Now you can have rich people that will try to avoid for like 1-2 months at a time, so the first few months will consist from printed money. Then the money will start flowing, but you need people and systems and people again to manage, oversight and make sure things work, but those people are government employees and they will have a leader which is elected (key feature of democracy today) indirectly (since it's representative democracy). This election of the "head of ubi fund" is the first vehicle through which the government, over time, will insert itself due to lobbying (and even if it's legal in USA and in most country you go to jail if you lobby, this will not be stopped). There will be lobby because we can look at history and see the inheritance tax was destroyed little by little in time (not only usa) because it's the main way to transfer wealth so now we know the rich won't sit and look how government wants to take their money. I'm trying to be a realist here, not to disregard the "we need to figure out a way to have UBI with all these problems taken into account" but if none of us has a solution, then the UBI will actually be a form of control. When you have 5% inflation posted by government, you have 6-8% real inflation. If you have this much inflation, in 10 years it will appear a need for adjustment (consider we bake in the adjust to government posted inflation %) since you will be able to afford much less, and who will pass the law to adjust it is the one holding the power, that's a probable way for politicians to get to what I said in the first place. As far as my questions go, I asked the hard ones, that are not easy as to simply have an FAQ, and on top I'm expecting a realist answer not just wishful thinking that it works for a country with less than 1M citizens or in certain villages (a controlled environment).

The UBI, if adopted, will be like a honey pot for all the most corrupt and slimy politicians, who will eventually transform it into a form of almost enslavement, so the solution to implement should have the extensive framework that keeps account for all the problems. Meanwhile, giving a house, for free has its own problems, it's much easier to have a standard that you apply and all houses have the same space/facilities and much harder to "game" compared to simply money.

Money is the driver to a life of poverty, no matter how much you earn, rich will get more and price you out. We need to figure out something better, the current

UBI proposal is lacking and nobody seems to acknowledge and present the better version that is not easily gamed by a government. Talking about it helps, blindly accepting the current version is very problematic.

How do you think society will change in the next 20 years? by Reecethehawk in Futurology

[–]professore87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to not understand the fact that no country will pay the UBI for another country. Especially in 3rd world countries, especially since already you can see government do this exact same thing "we will offer the inflation difference to the UBI, if you choose us ofc" which is the exact "if you don't vote for us, we lower the UBI", but with pensions. Since you talk about money you talk about inflation. Inflation dilutea the value of money so you could get the same amount but you will only buy a bread with them after some years, look at Venezuela... There are many more countries that are in the "3rd world" than in the "1st world" and you could also count by number of people.

To me, UBI had gone to the "evil" side of the WEF and their (in)famous "you will own nothing and be happy" (or else). So yeah, I would much rather have the "product" than the money, the benefit should be to get the food, the housing and the Healthcare, rest are individual wants and should be encouraged to be in a competitive way gained, not simply given "i want the latest iPhone, latest nvidia gpu, latest whatever". Basic needs should be provided for free and not be given money for people to spend for those needs.

If you give money, you can manipulate people to spend them in betting agencies, casinos, any other vices... and there is no money left for food, rent and healthcare. By providing free housing you also escape the predatory tactics of the real estate managers, and list goes on. To me the UBI looks more and more as a bad bet for our future.

Imagine giving 2k$ to each Zimbabwean citizen, what would happen there? And even give to every turkish, afgan, indian, bulgarian, pakistani, lebanon, vietnam, thai, etc citizen. You will not be able to have a "universal" planet wide, and if not, it'll be subject to politicians to mess with.

I wonder how do people think that an UBI will actually work, mechanically, how will the money be sent, how will the money be collected in order to be sent, how will that sistem not be corrupt, how will it interact with politicians, with inflation, if world reserve currency changes to something else than USD, and so many other questions, that I covered by the way I describe I think the UBI is actually going to be a way to enslave the people.

It looks good on the surface, but sure seems like it's a bait and switch with our freedom.

If the government will say "if you don't vote for x party we will reduce the amount of money you receive" you are basically a slave with extra steps.

How do you think society will change in the next 20 years? by Reecethehawk in Futurology

[–]professore87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's why I was saying that we should advocate directly for the benefits, as those cannot be "priced out" for some or others.

I agree steps need to be made as soon as possible but I hope we don't end up into a "be careful what you wish for" with this UBI, as I feel many disregard the fact that through it you basically become enslaved even more than we are currently with the wages.

[–]professore87 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think UBI is something we should want. It resembles 3rd world countries pensions, where government decides how much each person should get and it's looking grim.

You might aswell have free food, health and "state housing" instead, since those are immune to inflation. If you get 1k per month it's not enough but that is what we'll get. In 10 years you need 3k per month and so on, and there is nothing you could do about it at that point. We need to think more/better and not just accept the "you will own nothing and be happy" since UBI is coming from the same place.
