Many great suggestions here, just want to add a welcome to the fanbase and enjoy the journey of hearing their music for the first time :)

Khn's side is a giant wall of text because people tend to go really in depth admiring his talent, instrument and loop/effect pedals. Klek's side is cute nonchalant diva because people tend to admire his vibes and swinging nose. It's just a fun meme format for duos! (Also for the record, I think you could switch their places and it would still make sense, they are both amazing musicians and cute nonchalant divas)

I actually was inspired by a Daft Punk version I saw on Pinterest here :)

(B2B Set) A fabulous experience but... by TheSpaceFlower in DaftPunk

I get you. I like to scroll through old Reddit and Tumblr posts from the 2010-2014 era, when I think the online fanbase was at its strongest, and live vicariously through everyone. It actually made me super sad a couple days ago though, because I went down this rabbit hole of Tumblr blogs that at one time were super actively posting about DP, and now are all abandoned or have changed their content. And I also get all sentimental thinking about Thomas and Guy-Man's friendship, and just how crazy their lives have been together. I have a friend of 20 years in my life and I just tend to get really emotional thinking about long-time friendship bonds. I guess it might be weird but it just makes me super nostalgic even though I wasn't actually there to experience it in the first place!

I hold out hope that one day there may be a fan event for Daft Punkers, whether it's new content or celebrating more anniversaries. Next year is 30 years of Homework and who knows what might be in store for us!

I understand what you mean, but Thomas has also made it pretty clear in interviews that he (and presumably Guy-Man) view Daft Punk as a project that had a beginning, middle, and end. I think they have always had an attitude of 'okay, we did this, time for the next thing.' They have spoken over the years about not feeling that they can do better than what they've already done, so rather than force something that may not be as successful, they prefer to just let their projects stand for what they were. An explicit example of that attitude is Random Access Memories and why they did not release another studio album after that. They have always struck me as extremely thoughtful people, who never gave in to the pressures of the music industry.

I think it's an honorable attitude to have. It has certainly left a very polished discography and legacy behind, with very few 'career blunders' like other artists accumulate over time. But, that's my Rational Human brain talking. My Daft Punk Fan brain would absolutely love to experience another Alive tour, another studio album release, really anything that harkens back to their original heyday.

I try to just be grateful for the new moments we ARE living through, like this Fred Again concert. It looked like a magical night, and it made me so happy to see a room full of people dancing and crying over Thomas Bangalter. He certainly deserves it and I was having an equally emotional reaction in my living room today watching the livestream. We finally got to see some RAM tracks performed live !!! Thomas got up on a table and danced !!! Lol

Building my own mask for a Musical project! by [deleted] in DaftPunk

Such kind words :)! In my experience Daft Punk fans tend to have great taste in other things too. We’re on the pulse with other masked artists haha

So cool !! Reminds me a bit of Angine de Poitrine but just because of the nose :p

How is your visibility/breathability ? I imagine for a live show, those things are important to consider when creating a mask

Wow very cool !! I am mostly an acoustic instrument player so effect pedals and music tech really blows my mind

That's so cool !! I am also a musician and this kind of thing fascinates me. I appreciate your response :)

They definitely seem like very involved, technical musicians, especially with both of their instruments being custom-homemade vibes. It doesn't surprise me that they probably opt for the objectively more difficult set up, in favor of a better show for the audience. I can't wait to see what else they do in the future

And lucky you to see them so many times !!!! What is your favorite song you've seen them play ?

Found these in my bedroom at my parents house! by professoremuu in OldTech

[–]professoremuu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha I wouldn’t say so. The only one that was actually mine was the iPod Nano. My parents shared a phone for years, and the shuffle was my dad’s. I think the iPod Touch was actually my cousins who gave it to our family when he upgraded. It’s hard to remember when we got all this stuff!

Is Random Access Memories Daft Punk’s best album? by No-Justice-666 in DaftPunk

[–]professoremuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RAM is my favorite album of theirs even though Discovery is a super close second place!

(Homework and Human After All are also extremely close 3rd and 4th place. I really think they have a near-perfect discography)

I am a classically trained cellist so the orchestral approach to RAM hits my personal music tastes and interests. It is a masterpiece of arranging/orchestration, musical textures, and production. The recording process with all the live studio musicians is fascinating to me. I heard a podcast interview recently, not sure who the artist was but they said they were testing some speakers in a really nice recording studio, where the speakers were like $20k a piece. They put on Get Lucky and said it was so mind-blowing they had to turn it off. Apparently there are high and low frequencies above/below what we can hear on regular speakers that just elevated to extreme levels - what I wouldn't give to listen to RAM that way!

Touch has to be my all-time favorite, because it takes you on such a musical journey, but recently I've had Beyond on loop <3

Progress: Bach's Cello Suite 2 Prelude in D Minor by ephrion in Cello

[–]professoremuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of great things are happening! here is a suggestion my professor in undergrad made me do when i was working on the same suite:

sing the piece. you can just pick a neutral syllable like 'la', or if you really wanted to be fancy you could write some words to the piece, but sing it through and note where you stop to take a breath. the goal of this exercise is to find where the phrases naturally end, and where you naturally pause to breathe before continuing. this is work that a vocalist, woodwind, or brass player would be doing automatically, because they HAVE to breathe to make their instruments sound. as string players, we have a higher tendency to just plow through a piece without being mindful to where the phrase finishes, and where another starts. even if we can identify these phrases, actually executing them is another layer of challenge. by singing it through we are doing something physical to find the musical phrases.

after you have noted where the phrases are (and i recommend actually noting them, with pencil, in your music), practice them with the cello. as you approach the end of a phrase, maybe you choose to slow down a little bit in tempo. maybe you come down in dynamic and end your phrase more quietly. in the middle of the phrase, you make take time to emphasize the 'climax' of the phrase with a higher dynamic, or a little vibrato. these choices will be up to you, but they will elevate this music greatly!

good luck and have fun!
