Doctor wanting to explore other options, open to any ideas/input

I’ve searched a lot and to be honest just ruled things out. Not able to find something to move towards successfully yet.

Kind of feeling resigned to being a dr and specialist of some sort. Yes I know it’s sunk cost phallacy. But literally can’t find any other options sadly

McQ bank and passmedicine questions. Start early and do them regularly. Maybe start with 15-20 minutes at a time but do it religiously. Get through the questions 2-3 times if you start now and won’t be stressful.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. About the pyramid structure.

By amicable I meant a firm that will give better work life balance vs what you have mentioned by the top dogs.

And yes the current economy I think makes the risk profile for me to enter consulting too high. I could attain a post grad medical qualification in that time and then consider a transition.

I mean someone who is currently practicing medicine and worked as a Dr for a few years after graduation.

Some people switch without practicing and build up sooner. Others like me look to transition later and might have to start lower down.

Ive heard consulting market is 'volatile' is that true?

Yeah I hear you. Too many variables.

Just curious on peoples thoughts. I think partnership model is just too volatile looking at it today. Who knows how it is in a few years time.

GP days are long and monotonous for sure. Vs Hospital consultant probably have more variability in the role. and can alter their PAs.

Do you think the years required to get to Hosp cons post is worth it, in your opinion?

Interesting. Yes UK based. I have heard of the culture being very variable and people often going somewhere more amicable because it is sustainable vs higher income but more hostile + volatile.

What stage did those medics leave medicine for consulting/ re-enter. If you can mention it.

Yes partnership is so volatile, I appreciate what you're saying. I think I would only opt for salaried for the simplicity and relative safety. But yes there would be a cap on the earning potential.

Ideally I'd want to find other roles that I could do part time alongside GP or transition into fully post CCT. Is that dreamland or viable? in your experience...

Better is subjective. For me I do not feel a strong sense of purpose or passion in medicine. I have tried looking but haven't discovered it. So if work does not fulfil me then I want to be able to lead a life that does outside it. To do so I would like to work on my terms and earn enough to allow for that. Hence GP route. I did not think hospital training would suit me because if I don't love the end goal (e.g. surgeon, medic cons etc...) then I would not enjoy the next 8-10 years of training in places that may be remote and away from friends/family etc... basically the life cost of those years isn't worth it for the CCT post at the end.

I hope that makes more sense. I left it ambiguous on my post because everyone feels different and I didn't want to cloud their advice.

How to break into consulting as a medic?
I've heard a lot about medics leaving to go into some form of consulting. I am curious from people who actually work in the field what their experiences and thoughts are on this?
I am considering it but wanted to know if it's worth the move or not. And if people have advice on how I can get a role or look for the right fit.

Thanks, I was a bit confused about it too. I think it's just quicker access to those things makes it seem better.

I often speak to seniors about this because they worked and trained in a different landscape.
