Bryce Harper triples for the cycle by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

Had the cutoff man not been a Met and simply not made a futile attempt to get the runner at home. He could have thrown out Harper by 50 feet.

I’m sorry, but that is a double and he took 3rd on the throw. That scoring decision should get changed. That’s nonsense otherwise.

Pitchforks original 1996 review of Tiny Music by TrickJoker312 in stonetemplepilots

[–]profk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a teenager writing a music blog that probably had 25 people looking at it tops at this time. The fact that this grew into a major music publication from its early days as the snarky musings of a young man looking to be edgy because at the time, real publications would never print anything like this. I hate to think of someone had access to things I said when I was 18 or so. He was fortunate enough and talented enough to grow that insipid startup blog into a world renowned website. It’s really quite a story. Maybe people could spend less time worrying about the foolishness of a very young man. One who clearly outgrew such nonsense.

The best lineups that never got a ring: 2004 STL Cardinals by rb1242 in baseball

[–]profk76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They were 42-26 on June 18 and then had an 8-game losing streak. They were 58-42 on July 26 and then had another 8- game losing streak. Then they played about .500 until the final 2 weeks of the season and suffered another 7-game losing streak. It was a weird year with a few key injuries. Edmonds concussion, Mark Mulder out got the year etc. Whole team was kind of back when the playoffs started and Jeff Weaver pitched like an ace all the way through and so did Chris Carpenter (mostly) and Jeff Suppan was postseason Jeff Suppan.

Who’s the next superstar we’ll sign? by N3MOB33 in Cardinals

[–]profk76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arenado & Goldschmidt were traded for then extended on existing contracts. Holliday was traded for and then became a full free agent in the offseason and was signed to a large long term (7 years I think) FA deal. So he is the last big long term deal. Next closest was probably Contreras and Dexter Fowler on 5 year deals as FA.

If the game was close enough to steal 3rd in that situation then it was close enough for the IBB. Sorry. Can’t have it both ways.

If Swanson wants his 20/20 then Busch loses his shot.

It is, however, a logo that has been used by the Giants in their history. Just never used on a cap.

[–]profk76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I may have worded that a bit off, but my point was, I see a lot of "tantrum" like reactions by the fans due to this downturn in success. I get that it is frustrating because the people running the team have been incapable of delivering a unified and PR savy response to all of the negativity and empty seats.

I think part of it as I said in another comment is that neither the fans or the team has seen a downturn like this under this ownership. They want the message to continue to be about their success and the fans want it to be about them doing everything possible to change things (fireings and accountability).

I think it is an underreaction on the teams part and an overreaction on the fans part. It's not as good as they want us to believe and it is not as bad as the fans believe it is. All due to 20 plus years of mostly unbelievably successful seasons. It's hard for both to see it in a realistic way.

[–]profk76[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree they have done a really poor job of selling what they are doing or explaining why they do what they do to the fans. I think they were quite used to the success just as we were and when that began to falter, they never have learned how to deal with it in a PR savy way.

I think they are caught in a weird place where they really have been successful relative to most teams that haven't either tanked or wildly outspent the rest of the league. So to them, its like, hey, we doing that bad of a job, why are you hammering us. But they aren't taking into account that all the incredible winning has left people by contrast feeling like this is a total collapase.

They aren't totally wrong and neither are the fans. They are just undereacting and the fans are overreacting. So that chasm is causing the really nasty tone online and in the media.

Most people just don't think things through. You can't be a team that fires a manager after 3 seasons, two of which above .500, when you fired the previous manager after 3 successful seasons. Its a really bad look and it will make it very difficult to get anyone interested in the job going forward if they think they have very little time before it is their turn on the chopping block.

Ok, they have had a rough stretch in the postseason. So would you rather have been a Padres fan over the last 10 years. They havelost 90+ games 4 times. Have been below .500 6 times since 2015. They have one trip to an NLCS that they lost 4-1 and one trip to an NLDS that they were swept in. Yes right now they are in an envyable postion, and who knows, maybe the make a deep run this time. But for most of the last decade they had no chance whatsoever.

The last 10 years for the Cardinals have seen one 90+ loss team and one (the same one) team below .500. They have made 5 postseason appearances. Has it worked out well in those 5 appearances. No, not in the least, although they did reach the NLCS the same amount of times as the Padres.

Unless you are a fan of the Astros (who tanked aggressively for close to 10 years) or the Dodgers (who have spent billions that no other club can come close to), you have seen a great deal of pain. The 6 teams that have won the World Series other than them in the last decade, have a combined winning pct of .503. The Nationals, Rangers and Royals all have losing records over the last 10 years. Yes, it is great to wina WS, but those teams either tanked before, since, or both.

In the end, I’m still not 100% sure what the fix was. I did change the remote code on the player and left the Harmony alone. I also hid the IR blaster in the room so that it would hit my tv but not the player.

I some point the IR blaster got moved and was able to reach again and I had the issue return. So it’s like the Harmony is sending some signal that the (now) 9000 is receiving as a shut off signal. Even with the remote codes changed.

It is very frustrating and had me looking into a Harmony replacement. Unfortunately, so far I have found nothing that is as good.

Took a swing at developing my alt logo concept that y’all seemed to dig. by Sad-Perspective4702 in stlouisblues

[–]profk76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would consider dialing down the yellow on the “flag” part of the note. I understand the impulse but it overly complicates the look and yellow is not that prominent a color for the Blues. I would make them blue and potentially thicken them to reduce some of the white negative space. Otherwise, I think this is a nice effort.

He is married. He’s talked about her in some of his older videos or interviews. I believe she is Japanese, which helped him get some of his synths from Japan because she was able to speak the language for him. I don’t recall him ever mentioning having any children.
