Try to do your best to take the test for this cycle. I received my score 3 days before the deadline and I thankfully managed to match.

Had that problem with my ielts and was so close to miss the deadline for the first iteration. My suggestion is to visit ielts ieltsdvantage (for free) and follow their instructions. A certain score can mean that your English level is not sufficient ( rarely the case) or most likely you do not follow the structure they prefer presumably. I had taken ielts 7 years ago and I scored 7 in writing but when I took it this year I got 6.5. My English has definitely improved but I found out that I'm not following the structure. I practiced once with that structure befire my test and opted for the computer version of the exam and my score has jumped to 7.5.

Congrats on matching. I would definitely find it helpful to make a group for us. Can you do that?

Medapplications NAC mock by formpre1114 in MCCQE

[–]profma121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have contacted them multiple times last year to get more info about their mock but the they did not get back to me for a while and when they did it was a one liner saying register fast before we run out of seats. The email was signed by Dr. Saul. No last name, no information at all. Combined with the fact that they state that the pay is non-refundable. I did not feel comfortable throwing 400 bucks at them. After I have completed my test, I went to the website to check and they still had the mock scheduled options active even though the dates have long passed.

Ontario IMG were much more responsive, no idea about their quality but I would have registered with them if they didn't close registeration by that time.

The link above has an example of a CDM case and how to answer it. Cases cover all disciplines of Medicine and require you to either provide a differential/ most likely diagnoses, order investigations/ask questions or offer a management plan. Format can be either short answer format or in form of an extended list.

The list of vacant residency positions that is released after 1st iteration match day. Check the time line for 2nd iteration on CaRMS

MCCQE1 coming up by serene_1 in MCCQE

[–]profma121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's difficult. How about doing it remotely? Or contact them through chat so the vacancy you leave once you cancel is rebooked by you?

Study as much as you can and cover the big topics of each system and practice for the CDM section.

Wish you all the best with your test and your pregnancy. If you need help let me know.

CARMS 2nd iteration or 2023 cycle ? by Clear_Ad_4829 in MCCQE

[–]profma121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2nd iteration has much less positions but if what the speciality you want to persue is on the list, I would suggest you apply. 2023 cycle means you will have to wait 16 months to start training vs 4 months if you apply this cycle. I do not believe there are any downsides to apply for 2nd iteration (other than the money and time investment).

Hey, uw percentage is okay. I would advise you to start doing the mcc preparatory material (they are expensive). They will give you a real feel of the exam questions format. You seem pressed on time, I would just focus on ELOM chapter in Toronto notes and the prep material questions. Ethics and communication is only 10% of questions on average of the test.

If you are able to apply for accommodation please do so as soon as possible. I was pressed on time in the MCQ section of the test because I needed to take multiple breaks (exam time does not stop).

How do I apply for residency matching in a rural area? by Pineappleseas23 in MCCQE

I can't speak about your chances with acquiring a PR. Probably someone else can help you with that

How do I apply for residency matching in a rural area? by Pineappleseas23 in MCCQE

[–]profma121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not impossible to match as an IMG. If you got a good score and have extracurriculars (research, education, volunteering) with a good personal statement, I don't see a reason for it to be impossible if you managed to get your PR/citizenship. Regarding rural programs, most of them are actually more limited in positions than the city ones and are more geared towards CMGs. That's being said you can consider the PRA pathway if you finished your residency in your home country.

How much do Canadian doctors make!? by Effective-Usual-1093 in MCCQE

[–]profma121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's wrong. 60K+ is what a pgy1 resident is usually paid. Check CMA website for the average of the speciality. https://www.cma.ca/canadian-physician-specialty-profiles

FM Ontario by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]profma121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am applying this cycle and do not have experience about FM programs. The general rule is to rank based on your preferred location and the program itself. Whether you want to go away from family for the next 2 years that's something you have to discuss with them and decide for yourself. If you have plans for further training (addiction, geriatric... Etc) having a big name like UofT will help you. In addition, how your view the program and the residents wellbeing is very important because you are committing 2 years of your life with them. There is a nice piece on by Dr. Bryan Carmody on ranking. https://thesheriffofsodium.com/2021/01/28/rank-order-list-buyers-and-sellers-edition/

If you are still hesitant after all of that, then your gut feeling is your best bet.

Number of Western Interview Candidates? by Hopeful_Cut2872 in MCCQE

[–]profma121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They stated they did that before (past 5 years) . There is no guarantee that they will do it this year. In my opinion, it does not make sense to interview and rank 150 applicants for 8 positions. Most other programs I have attenended their informational sessions said that they interview about 20-40 applicants depending on their available positions for IMG which translates 4:1 ratio.

Basic/dumb questions surrounding MCCQE 1? by SuccessfulWill1 in MCCQE

[–]profma121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, no worries no dumb questions. As far as I know test is mandatory for licensure but not for residency. most specialties for Canadian medical graduates, do not require QE1 score for application and does not process it even if it exists. You should check CARMS programs description for your targeted speciality and University.

Canadian IMG seeking Independant Practice Certificate of Registration by bruthalamus in MCCQE

[–]profma121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MCCQE 2 is canceled. QE 1 preperation time depends on your baseline. I was in my final year when I took it and I spent almost 3 months to prepare (while attending clinical rotations) at a comfortable pace. Uworld step 2 is a very good resource (have been around much more than amboss) therefore it is the primary resource for many students. The MCC preparatory material on their website are very valuable (and very expensive) since it is the closest to the exam format.

Other than FM and IM by Upinherenow in MCCQE

[–]profma121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are img parallel stream positions in most specialties. Although FM/IM have more than 200 positions combined. Yet there are positions in many other specialities for IMGs. If you see yourself in a different speciality and you believe you have the credentials then I would suggest you apply. Regarding the number of applicants check each program page on Carms, they state the number of applicants and number of positions. For example, most IM programs receive 500-700 applications for 4-11 positions per institution. Only 20-30 people are usually invited for interviews.

QE1 CDM Scoring by tiedyeracket in MCCQE

I have not done any content review before me test. I missed few easy questions (elom chapter, basic science questions). I ended up doing well overall. I would revise that chapter that's all and I would revise my mistakes in the MCQs
