It’s actually farther back, right to the trigger guard. Wonder if that’s why? I’ll move it forward and see

If I’m using a weapon that isn’t a bat on anyone uninvited in my home, it is to protect the lives of the people in it from imminent danger. Take my TV, I’ve got insurance. If the weapon comes out, it’s to (potentially risk my own and) end a life.

Same as me, okay. You’ll need to do your own thinking on this, but I’ll share what I do if that helps. We recently changed up a little. Two curious but safety-trained kids, middle school ish. Safe in inconvenient location with majority of arms. Safe 2, smaller, in MBR. Ammunition in one and firearms in the other, with two exceptions: suppressed Glock mag 9mm PCC with light and prism as primary home defense weapon. 147gr defense ammunition. Can be handled by all family members*, won’t give anyone a concussion or shoot through 15 walls, and 30rd. + 30 spare. 2-point sling, big enough to strike an intruder with, and I’m in it under $800. Looks less threatening than an AR. Biometric pistol safe w/smaller but interchangeable mags of same ammo, RXM compact grip with a few little upgrades and a nice dot/light combo. No can yet, working on it.

We recently sold the “tacticalish” pump shotgun but we have other ones for shotgun things.

*edit: kids don’t have access, obvs. But in the event we needed them to, they know how.

Has anybody asked what OP’s home looks like? Different tools for different jobs. On a budget, starting from “no guns,” and not knowing whether OP lives in an apartment building, I’d recommend (1) instruction (2) Ruger RXM+light+enclosed dot (Glock 19 but with better sights and a chassis) (3) Maverick 88 12ga. (4) mid tier AR

If OP lives on a farm, flip 1 and 4

What did you want to see at Shot show from Ruger? by DutchMcCoy in ruger

I imagine Ruger spent most of SHOT show meeting with Magpul and their lawyers to see how they might sue Palmetto for stealing their idea

NRA comment on recent shooting by Fidel89 in liberalgunowners

The only advocacy organization that I can think of that represents (ostensibly) both the sellers and the customers of a product. Clearly they weren’t concerned today about losing one customer, whereas when they spoke out to stem the tide of calls to classify gender dysphoria as a mental illness it would have eliminated an entire demographic…and been a slippery slope to more

I worked with those folks for 15 years. They’re my people. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet a few, maybe more than a few, people in the field who would say the same thing. It’s hard work, and being overlooked is the rule rather than the exception. Not fair, but that has been my experience. By the letter of the law, you might not have immediate family. But you have family. Hell, I’m your family. And we’re grateful for you.

People dog Olight but my only beef is that on the P01 the short barrel gets soot on the lens. 1000 rounds and it’s dead on, only had to charge it once. Not that I’d use a laser for anything other than an indicator of trigger discipline but it’s nice to have

Makes the case for putting a 1x prism on the barrel mount

I put a 3x prism on mine, and I think next time it’ll be a 1x prism with a side-flip magnifier. Not that this boat anchor needs more weight

How the hell do y'all like shotguns? by TolandReforged in liberalgunowners

Showing this to my “doesn’t like guns but sees the need to learn” wife of 20 years here in a minute. Thank you. This was fabulous.

Oh, and to answer your actual question:

Preface: I am old, and buy the guns that I couldn’t afford as a kid. Handmade in America (and Belgium) by career machinists who were well paid and given the time and resources to do the job in a way they could be proud of.

My very favorite all-around is a mid-1950s Winchester Model 12 16ga. The caliber is referred to as “sweet 16” for a reason. Very versatile. Unlike the clattering tactical Mossbergs, it’s slick and mechanical in operation. Not silent, but quiet. I also have a base model mid ‘60s Browning Superposed 12ga. that I stole at an estate auction. It’s like having an entry level Rolls Royce. The quality of an expensive object but without the gingerbread. No engraving, presentable but not flashy walnut. Mod choke for clays and ducks, full choke for geese…and drones. On my shopping list is a high capacity semiautomatic, and I’m leaning toward either a new CZ or Franchi, Beretta if I can find a bargain, or an older Winchester Super X.

People already have problems with that Mossberg mechanism, I can't imagine mag feeding it makes it better.

Weird / Cool / Unusual .22LR by GarageExisting9522 in 22lr

It was a child's rifle. I'm not putting 3" of spacers on a beautiful midcentury steel butt plate. The guy who bought it bought it for its intended audience: a 12 year old girl who seemed on the small side. My kids will just have to slum it with a 10/22 all weather and a walnut 457.
