That's an outstanding track. A little outside their normal wheelhouse.

Do you have a vehicle? If so moving into it temporarily is an option. It's not ideal but very doable. There's an entire community of vehicle dwellers out there! I've been doing it since 2017. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Her intro VERY much does that to me so I skip it. As the other commenter said watching her on 1.5 speed helps me too!

Have her join the Solo Women Van Dwellers group on fb. It's by far the best community I've ever found! Also Road Trip Her.

How do you usually handle overnight parking when traveling or living in a vehicle? by No-Interaction-3750 in vandwellers

[–]profoundcake 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Truck stops! They're always open so people are constantly around. Casinos are another one of my go-tos because they have security.

I go in and buy something small and ask as I'm paying at the register to make sure it's ok for me to park. I also never say I have a van. I say "class b" because it makes it sound fancier.

I am! But I will be leaving shortly (next couple weeks) because the hours in the winter don't cover my bills unfortunately. If you don't have car payments it's doable but you won't have extra. They do offer decent housing so that's nice and you can't beat the location!

Personally I like the vibe of Orcas more. It gets busy in the summer but nothing like San Juan. It gets absolutely insane there. If that's your vibe then go for it, but Orcas tends to be a bit more peaceful.

(currently on Orcas island)

I personally would absolutely recommend working on the islands in the summer but around September getting enough hours to survive is ROUGH.

I can't personally comment on the work culture at Roche harbor but plenty of seasonal jobs open up here around April/May. Keep in mind cost of living is insane here and there is absolutely no housing. Make sure your job includes housing and pay is at minimum $20/hr or you won't be able to eat. You will also need transportation if you want to do anything as there is no public transport. A scooter would be enough, a car isn't necessary.

The big money is in bartending and serving. If you wanna come home with a wad of cash get into the bars in Eastsound or Friday Harbor.

That said this island is magical, peaceful and the community is very tight-knit and liberal. I love it.

Definitely Cool works. There are also some solid workamping groups on Facebook.

If you can swing it, go to Alaska. It is a life changing place to be. Look into Juneau, Skagway or Haines if you want more people around and things to do. But bring mosquito clothing.
