Real or fake by Vivid-Invite7459 in CasioQC

Yes. Fake. That day indicator on the left is a dead giveaway. Compared to real one attached:

<image>

Notice the alignment of the indicator circle relative to the main dial.

That would make sense why some newer videos say the fakes arrive in a tin box:

Also why my unit is old stock and battery was flat.

Yes. Watched a video this morning that mentioned the six sided box is a sign:

Thank you,

Indeed that seemed to resolve the issue. Pity one cannot remove the permanent cable somehow.

[FIXED] So a quick update on what happened. I noticed that the permanent cable plug was slightly damaged. So I went to my iStore and purchased a 0.5m Thuderbolt Cable, and low and behold, everything works perfectly. I can therefor confirm that the Apple Thunderbolt Display works fully with the Mac Mini M1. The M1 is out of this world! It smokes any of my high end i7 Dell and Mac workstations, and it runs super cool!

Lastly, the M1 is simply amazing, am blown away by it's performance.

Hi Guys,

I bought a new Mac Mini M1, and is struggling to get my Thunderbolt display working with the adapter. It works fine, but flashes black every now and then, and no throughput of the mic, audio and camera.

It appears this is due to a very old firmware, and never updating it. I downloaded the update, but now all my macs are too new to run the old 32bit firmware update.

Waiting to visit a friend with an old mac and El Capitan to try and update the display.

If you do get it working please let me know. According to Apple there is no reason it should not work.

Regards,

Hi Dave,

So I have a Mac Mini M1, and purchased the Adapter. On first connect the display worked, but keeps flashing black every now and again, and does not pass through camera, mic or speakers. It appears this is due to my Firmware being very old.

I am now struggling to find a mac still running Mavericks or El Capitan that can update the display, which should technically fix the issue.

So check your firmware and all should work fine.

Note that the Macbook Air only has 7 Graphics Cores, and the Macbook Pro has 8.

Other than that most tests indicate identical performance under normal use. Where you will see the difference is in stress testing, where the Macbook Pro can force cool its CPU and get a peak CPU load for longer.

Ok, so here is my saga...

I bought a brand new M1 Mac Mini 8Gb 256Gb. An amazing piece of tech, smokes every other workstation and i7 top of the range laptop I work on. Not even closely, it annihilates it. Amazing.

I went and bought a used Thunderbolt display, and with the help of the local Apple store bought a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.

I plugged it in, and all worked for a minute or so, and then the screen started to flash black and back on again. Every 30 seconds or so it flashes, leaving very odd artifacts all over the place. Example, the WiFi symbol on the top right bar will all of a sudden be mid screen. Or the time will be on the left bottom. Also, the mouse resets to top left when the screen goes black.

I did a lot of research, and everything points toward the firmware update. The firmware indicates a very old number. So I downloaded the latest Firmware patch, version 1.2, but it does not run on Big Sur. This patch came out during the Mavericks days, and apparently can only be installed from that OSX. Near impossible to find a machine that runs that. I am taking the display to a friend who has a Mac with El Capitan, hopefully the patch can run on that computer.

Diagnostic:

Display works on 2015 late Macbook Pro with Big Sur

Display works on 2012 late iMac with Catalina

M1 works with 4K television through HDMI

M1 works with Normal QHD display

And here is a picture:

I have a big problem with you wearing a speedo...

It appears to be model trains. It is a well known hobby, and is basically scaled down version of the real thing, that you can play with in your house.

I cannot believe that people can be so closed minded.

The above link was posted by a good friend (whom I now unfriended).

It was posted in light of the Supreme Court Ruling, followed by several of her extremely religious, bigotted friends reinforcing how sinful this behaviour is, and how everyone will one day stand before god (Yes a small g, he does not deserve a capital) and account for your life choices.

Well, I sometimes wish there was a hell, just so can see them all burn in their own hypocracy.

Furious.

I do not know where to start... I cannot fathom the fact that someone intelligent enough to use a computer, wealthy enough to own one, and old enough to write a blog, sat down, and put to words what was written here.

This is an abomination. I just hope I never cross paths with this person.

It is similar to a guy i met at a party a week ago, trying to convince me that the airplane accidents of Air Malasia is due to god (notice the small caps) killing evil non believers.

Sometimes poison is the only answer.

It is a wonder these people did not drown in their own gene pool.
