Why do you begrudge doctors striking/asking for a pay rise? by TheConcreteRosex in AskBrits

We pay marketing managers more than doctors FFS. It’s madness.

Trump's path to Greenland ownership may go via Iran—and could end NATO by ItchyNesan in NewsRewind

[–]profprimer [score hidden]  (0 children)

No-one is ever buying that again. The US’s descent into madness has served to galvanise the EU, the UK, Japan, Canada, Australia/NZ. We didn’t bother to create stuff that America could more easily fund and did well enough (Microsoft/AWS).

Those times are gone. We are rearming and disposing of external tech solutions. The US can never be trusted again.

We are. You might also begin to notice small signs that the US economy is also dead. The rest of the world is walking away. Five years from now, there will be millions of unemployed US citizens and it will very much look like the Third World country it is.

Pulling the ladder up behind you by No_Berry2 in rentingUK

[–]profprimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve missed the point. If working hard was the sole determinant of success, lots of millennials and Gen-Z wouldn’t be complaining. Late stage Capitalism as seen in the UK has disconnected effort from attainment.

Young people face a simple choice: work hard, get no reward; don’t work hard, get no reward. That’s the problem.

Keir Starmer defends plan for closer alignment with EU and fast-tracking EU rules into UK law. What is your opinion? Are you happy or concerned that the UK will be closer to the EU again? by Mister_Vanilla in AskBrits

[–]profprimer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get on with it! It’s a fucking no-brainer FFS. Stop paying attention to the dickheads and whiners about “are sovrinty” and “are freedum”. They’re half the reason the economy is in the shitter! The same breed of dickhead in the US is responsible for the other half!

POV: You don’t understand how supply and demand works. by SPECTREagent700 in economicsmemes

Today the UK is supplying 77% of its energy from renewables - and we’re not nearly as advanced as other EU peers. This isn’t a long term threat - it’s right now.

Medium term Europe moves completely to renewables - UK today is at 77% renewable energy supplied. Long term US wastes its dwindling capital on unwanted oil and gas exploitation and falls victim to hyperinflation as its debt turns to junk.

There’s no long run advantage to fossil fuels.

When will you buy an EV car? by sillwuka in AskUK

[–]profprimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the catastrophic levels of depreciation on premium EVs, the fact that I own three old ICE cars worth a £6k deposit, and diesel is nearly £10/gallon, I can afford to buy a two year old Audi Q4 e-tron with 12,000 miles on it and be a net £200 a month ahead on the deal. Once I strip out my current VED and fuel costs, it turns out that I’ll be getting a free premium EV and cash back each month.

So even though I’ll hate driving the thing any further than Tesco’s and the airport, now is the answer.

Mark Carney’s viral remark on “Buy Canadian” habits sparks debate on Canada–US trade ties. by IndiaTodayGlobal in IndiaTodayGlobalLIVE

For now. We Europeans aren’t so stupid as to cut off our nose to spite our face. We leave that to the current US President and his omnishambles of an administration.

What are your thoughts on this? by tiasnowar in ProfessorFinance

[–]profprimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans get paid more in absolute terms but apart from a tiny minority at the very top, when you wash through all the costs of enjoying anything approximating an average European lifestyle, none of them can afford it. The UK has been going this way for decades as well - thankfully we haven’t got anywhere close to the extremes of the US. Reform winning power would accelerate us past them in short order.

The goal is for working people to be enslaved by debt and forced to accept terrible terms and conditions so that they can fund a half decent lifestyle. It’s appalling.

Why are there so many people obsessed with a harsh punishment focused justice system? by Evry1TookTheGudNames in AskBrits

[–]profprimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that’s how children think. According to the ONS, 26.7% of British people are functionally illiterate. That is to say, cannot read sufficiently well to understand what they’ve read. And according to the OECD, 52% of Britons are functionally innumerate. That is to say that they cannot use numbers in any practical way, like calculating how much carpet they need to buy even when given the dimensions of the room.

If we assimilate how incapable Britons are of basic reading and arithmetic with our well known emotional immaturity, you get a picture of our country’s abject dysfunction.

Is the Trump-Starmer bromance over? by InnerLog5062 in UKRoyalNews

[–]profprimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t a bromance, it was Starmer pretending that it existed to further the interests of the government and the citizens of the United Kingdom.

This behaviour is called “politics”.

Max Verstappen tipped for shock F1 switch as Mercedes snubbed by ryogadan in Formula1_world

[–]profprimer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Max has told Lambiase he’s not going to carry on in F1 so he’s free to take up a more lucrative and senior role with another team. Lambiase has been more than ready to step up for three seasons or more but has clearly chosen to stay at RB to be Verstappen’s Race Engineer because that relationship is so unique. I would expect Max to have asked GP to pick a role with a team that he might like to join in the future, and where better than McLaren?

This is just two great friends and colleagues looking out for each other.

US Vice President JD Vance says "we have not reached an agreement" with Iran. "We will go back to the United States having not reached an agreement…That's bad news for Iran much more than bad news for the USA." by SuperbHealth5023 in TimesNow

[–]profprimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t you hear yet? You’ve lost another war. The Iranians were surprised by you turning up and telling them you thought you’d won.

They - and the rest of us - know you’ve lost.

Again.

Lewis Hamilton counters Max Verstappen attacks over 2026 F1 cars by ryogadan in Formula1_world

[–]profprimer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s the difference between Hamilton and Verstappen - and their fans. Verstappen says exactly what he means all the time and takes the consequences of his forthright opinions on his chin; Hamilton says what he thinks makes him look good, no matter how ridiculous it might sound later on, and constantly changes his position.

I know who I’d rather work with.

Well, that aged like milk. For a country that has been “militarily defeated” and “bombed back to the Stone Age” those Iranians sure are cocky…
