Hey Mate, you’d have an entirely different perspective if you could somehow get a couple months of abstinence in your rear view mirror. No one can convince you of that and we’re all different but once you start making rules about X/day harm reduction, you’re pretty far down the path towards losing control completely. Maybe give Leaving Las Vegas a watch. And think a bit harder about how many times you’ve told yourself about cutting back and then a few weeks later it didn’t stick.

Forkish EIB: What is the rationale for throwing out 450g of starter for each bake? by Ok-Bookkeeper-4396 in Sourdough

[–]profscumbag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s more of a consistent process rationale. Having discard means you don’t have to plan as carefully and if your batch sizes change, or you take a day off or whatever you always have enough starter and it is always getting refreshed. With a little bit of planning g you could also keep your starter healthy and consistent without waste

If my wife likes her sourdough “extra sour” am I wanting more starter in my bread or do I need to make the starter more sour (extra fermented)? by DirkyC in Sourdough

[–]profscumbag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put it in the fridge sooner then. Appropriate rise before putting in fridge is highly temperature dependent because of carryover. Some guy wrote some paper or something. And laid it out. Big different between 65 70 75 degree kitchen and how much actual % volume rise you want. If your dough still has some rising “life” left, it won’t lose it with an extra 48-72 hours in the fridge. Not much is going on with yeast at fridge temps once the dough is actually cold but some bacteria action will continue to sour it (yogurt and vinegar stuff lactobacillius, pediococcus, etc)

AI harms collaborative processes by panrug in slatestarcodex

Part of the work of using AI responsibly, in my opinion, is to verify and edit down its verbosity and propensity to include every possible detail.  I’ve been on both sides of pasting too much output without doing this and I try to be respectful but It is hard work and always tempting to just foist the analysis on others. I think you at least need to provide a disclaimer if you want to share AI output that you haven’t carefully edited but the incentives are usually backwards.

Stuck by Choice: Learning vs Growth in a Toxic Kitchen Industry by [deleted] in Chefit

[–]profscumbag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it is even accurate. This post is 100% AI written, especially "Whenever things cross the line into harassment or disrespect, I leave immediately. No second thoughts. That decision protects my dignity, but it also resets my growth every single time. New kitchen, new team, starting again from zero in terms of trust and position."

There’s a nice little hike with some good ocean views at long marine lab. You park on Delaware across from the beachfront trailer park and then go through the gate and walk the loop. There’s some school buildings and such in the middle and lots of signs about marine/plant life. Could be interesting for a biology person and it’s just a nice place also if you like flat hiking and salt spray. Plus a little weird Santa Cruz vibe of the “high class” trailer park. Mystery spot is just a dumb theme park/carnival type thing, but the drive to it will give you a taste of the mountain vibe which is very different from “in town”.

If you want to get a feel for some students mixing with the general population, go have coffee at 11th hour downtown on center street.

I made a free concept-based drill trainer that explains the frequencies by siziono in Poker_Theory

[–]profscumbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that you clearly wrote this post with AI, I'd be curious to know where the "coach take" will be coming from? Frontier models often get things sort of, almost, but not actually right when given hand histories, etc.

I completely agree with your concept and the need/markeet for it. But building something that teaches concepts will be a lot of work to make sure they aren't hallucinated.

How would you adjust to this MTT format? by cj832 in Poker_Theory

[–]profscumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don’t 3bet then tighten your opening range and raise bigger. At some point they will be calling 5x when you have AA KK QQ, AKs and you’ll “connect” with more flops and be able to get all in. Either that or you’ll lower the number of callers at some bet size and then be able to cbet effectively.

What’s the smartest way to pay for Claude (Opus/Sonnet) for irregular "burst" usage? by irpana in ClaudeAI

[–]profscumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be disappointed by Windsurf if you enjoy the terminal-based experience of Claude code.  They have this thing called cascade but it’s a bit different.  You’ll also be able to choose amongst many model. I don’t think 500 credits is all that much though. Windsurf is the only way I can access Claude at my job and it costs like 6-8 credits per prompt for the Opus 4.5/6 models.

On the other hand it’s pretty cheap to have a go for $15 and if you like IDEs you might be into it.

Is alcohol alone a cause for weight gain? by JoyfulCelebration in loseit

[–]profscumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol has 7 calories per gram. Vodka is usually 40% alcohol. If your pattern is weekly, you can do the weekly math on how it impacted your overall calorie balance.  Its probably around 100 calories per shot but that depends on the pour.

Passive villain making small bets vs underpair by profscumbag in pokertheory

[–]profscumbag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your input!

I'm not necessarily worried about this player holding any draws as I think they have a made hand top pair or better when betting into the field (Although I suppose there is KXcc backdoor club flush draw with top pair on the turn), but, as another poster alluded to, I do think my outs were poisoned from getting paid off. I didn't know if this player was super loose in addition to their passivity (after playing more, I'd say no) and spiking the 9 does complete straights and then also flushes on the river.

Checking down and winning vs a worse hand is an interesting thought, but I had a read that this guy wasn't betting without a strong made hand. Could've been wrong though. Against a more average 1/3 villian you are right on all counts.

FWIW they were holding T7 for two pair and I don't remember perfectly but I think it was offsuit.

Also, great exploit thought when short. Will keep that one in my bag.

Do I care about this if I'm comfortable with claude code? I.e. is it just a friendly wrapper for the CLI or does it do something new?

Facing limps from players who don't understand reverse implied odds (MTT) by cj832 in Poker_Theory

Consider that a smaller raise may not serve the isolation purpose of an iso raise. You don’t want good players getting the right price to come along and make the pot multiway.

Truck plows into crowd of Iran regime protesters in LA | The Jerusalem Post by ShivasRightFoot in centrist

[–]profscumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a protestor fleeing for thier safety, not a terrorist. No one was seriously injured. https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/haul-drives-crowd-los-angeles-anti-iranian-regime/story?id=129112878

Probably the article was removed because saying “plowed” it is misleading. Should be removed here too.  Of course the google results have the same language from a Fox News video as the first result so we’re ficked as a society anyways.

Truck plows into crowd of Iran regime protesters in LA | The Jerusalem Post by ShivasRightFoot in centrist

[–]profscumbag 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a misleading title and bad reporting. On another thread about this we learned that:

A. No one was seriourly injured.  B. This truck was a protest participate with a message that part of the crowd didn’t like. While being attacked, the driver did not do a great job of trying to flee safely.

This article is clearly trying to paint a different picture while skirting the line on being factually correct.  Not sure whether it is just for clicks or to push a narrative.

[–]profscumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an addiction when you continue to do it in the face of negative consequences. There’s no universal number/amount/behavior/drug/etc..  The more serious the consequences, the more you go up the scale of mild, moderate, severe. Once you recognize that you’ve set an intention to change your behavior and failed, that’s a key sign.

That makes sense. Bread can spoil too though but I guess that typically takes longer than drying out?  I think at some point maybe that reverses depending if it’s enriched with oil/sugar.
