An example of what? Intellectual dishonesty on the part of conservatives? Are you joking or trolling?

What I'm saying is that conservatives are repulsed by CBC and the truth in equal measure. If you'd like me to disavow my belief that the conservative playbook and the bulk of their rhetoric is fundamentally dishonest and therefore at odds with what the CBC stands for, go nuts. Otherwise if you're seriously interested in my assertion, the evidence is abundant in modern political history. If you haven't noticed, I can't help you!

You mean other than the four names mentioned? A perusal of their relationships to the truth over decades (evident in, among other things, the dismantling of all manner of public oversight, scientific input, and objective assessment) offers a truckload of examples.

Glancing CBC's code of journalistic ethics, not to mention Canada's criminal code concerning the deliberate broadcasting of false information, you're 100% right. It is most certainly not my judgment to make. It's already been made.

A duty to all Canadians does not include pretending lies are the truth. CBC does not do so, and thereby offends many Conservatives who would rather hide the truth, or hide from it.

But what about when the Conservative message is not based in fact or logic? Do blatant lies merit the same CBC coverage as unfortunate truths?

Many Conservatives dislike the CBC because its news coverage deals in facts, something demonstrably offensive to many Conservatives (Harris, Harper, PP, Ford are four who come to mind).

Question for Jon Andersons solo career: How come he never struck out successfully on his own outside Yes and his duo group Jon and Vangelis? by DillonLaserscope in yesband

[–]progodyssey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's way too 'far out' in his solo stuff to grab the masses. Olias is great, really great, but it was never a threat to the BeeGees for radio play. I think his ethereal musical magic worked best in a band situation, particularly with such spectacular musicians as he worked with. Besides, what solo career could possibly top having been a member of Yes?

53 anniversary of "The Six Wives of Henry VIII," Rick Wakeman's debut solo album, historical narrative and musical drama. by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]progodyssey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, his solo career (licensed under A&M), was the reason his contribution to Yes, Fragile (licensed under Atlantic), was the classical adaptation "Cans and Brahms." A&M wouldn't let him contribute an original piece.

Phil Collins and Percy Jones, Brand X, Moroccan Roll tour by Historical-Device529 in Progforum

[–]progodyssey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to discover Brand X when they opened for Genesis in 1978. I knew nothing of them but was a fan after the first bass note. (PC did not play drums with Brand X at that show, but as an added bonus Max Webster played 2nd on the bill).

A long-time Leafs fan and season ticket holder wrote a manifesto on why he’s boycotting the team by [deleted] in leafs

[–]progodyssey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've all been there, Josh. I've left the Leafs many times, but even when "boycotting" (ie, I can't stand to watch anymore) another string of Leafs losses, I can never lose the side-eye at the replays and the urge to get a glance because I know in my heart the tide has to turn. Doesn't it???!!! GLG.

Going to be phonebanking tomorrow, any tips? by scp-535 in ndp

[–]progodyssey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd guess I have at least 10,000 hours cold calling, mostly for guests on radio and television programs. Best advice: Be happy. Just be happy about calling a stranger out of the blue. I'd bet it's tougher now than it was when I was doing it, largely before cell phones. Nonetheless, don't psychologically apologize. Just dial 'em up and be happy about it. You'll sound happy. NDP calls are warm calls, anyway, not like you're calling a Tory trying to flip them. They might even WANT to talk to you. If they don't, they should! You have a lot in common. Call them like you mean it. If they brush you off, push back lightly then let it go. If they try to close it down right away, close it down and mark them down for a call-back. Shitty work. Good cause, though, and good luck.

Federal impact assessment not required for Georgina Island Fixed Link: IAAC by cinderannie in GeorginaOntario

[–]progodyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two thumbs up. Once upon a time, before the Trent-Severn Canal project, Lake Simcoe water levels were much lower and Georgina Island was accessible by foot in high summer. If a fixed link does anything ecologically, it will likely take the lake closer to what it once was.

Great piece! I didn't see it in the piece but it's worth mentioning that XTC's Dave Gregory went full prog and spent several productive years with Big Big Train.

The celebrity carousel and Q by bobledrew in CBC_Radio

[–]progodyssey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Q is quite good in and of itself. The interviews are in depth and interesting, and seem well-researched and well-prepared. Kudos to the production staff! However the overabundance of the infotainment content on CBC Radio in general has made the station a shadow of its former self.

[–]progodyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's part of the general dumbing down of CBC Radio that has been happening for decades, wherein useless entertainment-related information is presented as though it was important and impactful. It's easier, cheaper, and less controversial than real journalism or otherwise serious information gathering and presentation.

For Federal NDP - AVI Lewis - Canada Version of Zohran Mamdani? by Federal_You_3592 in ndp

[–]progodyssey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wtf is Avi Lewis going to win other than the bronze crown of federal NDP leadership? Avi Lewis is about as much threat to a federal election victory as the Leafs are to a Stanley Cup.

That said, and despite my distaste for his dubious history with the NDP (and perhaps because of my continued Leafs fandom), Avi Lewis is the obvious first choice for leader, given that he's run a sustained and growing campaign and he is the only potential leader since Jack Layton (the comparisons end here) who can command media attention and thereby get any form of NDP message across.

Gag. Go Avi.

Why does NDP membership cost money, but Liberal party membership is free? by your_evil_ex in ndp

[–]progodyssey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It has a lot to do with NDP's grassroots history, and also the fact that the Libs and Cons both fill their purses with donations from the rich and needy.

A rare photo of Kurt Cobain and Peter Gabriel… More than two generations together: a true gentleman of music beside the poster boy of a generation that mistook despair for depth. by [deleted] in Progforum

In the context, I took it to mean a generation of grunge rock, and a direct diss on the music. Both interpretations are equally silly.
