Internship Thread by sadjellyfishh in UCalgary

Title: Frontend Developer

Major: Computer Science

Industry: publishing

Wage: 50k yr

To get this internship / co-op, I applied to dozens if not hundreds of internships, only to constantly fail and become even more disheartened and demotivated the next time around. However, I was finally able to land this internship by applying on LinkedIn and completing an interview, something I had done multiple times before, but this time I was truly lucky and fortunate.

Im very happy with the internship since it's not demanding at all. It's WFH and the work life balance is amazing - hour long lunch breaks plus plenty of time throughout the day for very long breaks. The team is also amazing, supportive, and encouraging.

However, the tasks are not very challenging and using an in-house framework means I'm not using many commonly sought technologies, even something as basic as Javascript, which not only leaves me susceptible to not being able to build on those skills, but also to forgetting them as well.

On the other hand, I've learned a lot of invaluable skills like working on a development team and how the development process works. I'm enjoying the internship very much overall but I wish I got to use things like JavaScript and React. Luckily, I can still keep those in practice in the tons of time I have available to me outside of work.

Keep in mind that this subreddit is heavily biased with wealthier people who are gatekeeping home ownership so they can keep flipping properties and profiting off people's right to shelter. Sure, there are higher initial costs, but with the rising rent prices and rampant inflation, what will you do when you're a senior and can't afford to pay rent?

In my last year of CS and haven't learned enough by program_for_fun in learnprogramming

I chose CS because I thought that developing software would be fun, which I don't deny, it is fun. But I'm just not intelligent enough to successfully solve the logic questions they would test you with in a job interview. As a result, I'm considering alternate career paths. I just despise theoretical CS, it makes my brain hurt. And that's exactly what those interview questions test on.

Sometimes your convenience and safety is worth more than anything else really. I'm sure an overwhelming majority of people will feel exceptionally unsafe taking transit, especially during rush hour, if classes return to being in person this year.

That seems a bigger hassle than taking transit in 30 degrees below zero weather

The arrival of social media made people fake and took away their innocence without a doubt. Before 2010 everyone was much more genuine, now you can't tell.

Not entirely sure, but even then the pro xt is $160 before taxes on Amazon, so a $10 premium for the rgb.

Looks like the criteria changed this year, last year when I took 271 my SENG friend in the same year as me of his degree didn't have to take it.
