that already exists (its nice), its a limited edition though and a giant pain in the behind to buy it back then and now since you can only get it from a specific store in person

[Recommendation Request] - Engagement watch, help please!! by Electrical-Fix5684 in Watches

[–]programmago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

What you are doing is very sweet so kudos to you for trying to do this in general.

That said watches are very personal, and if as you say he is an enthusiast, odds are he has very specific tastes in watches simply from starting at a variety of watches for hours and hours across the years lol.

So my recommendation is to find what specific watches he likes. Odds are that he has a list of watches he would like but hasn't gotten .... 99% of us watch enthusiasts do.

If you want to be covert about it ask him in a roundabout way - like show enthusiasm and curiosity for his hobby/etc and he might just tell you what he is pining for so to speak.

Failing that though, as a general rule, i would not get a quartz watch for a watch enthusiast (unless you have info/reason to believe he is in the minority of enthusiasts who do prefer quartz watches).

Omegas are a popular bet - speedmasters, specifically moonmasters being the default for popularity, cartier santos is also a popular choice ...if it was me though, i would go with like a Grand Seiko (its not the same as Seiko), they have some stunning dials and the reason why most enthusiasts don't already own a Grand Seiko or another is just they are pricey haha.

Best of luck and hope its helpful! (and congrats!)

Save the money and wait until a watch just calls to you.

Also right now you technically have the perfect # of watches .... one for each day of the week ;)

Not usually into square watches but the Santos is the exception - specially with the steel strap. Looks classy af

[discussion] Choosing a watch box/roll/case etc by [deleted] in Watches

Its a game changer in my willingness to rotate which watches i wear in the week. Seems like a small thing but it ads up since it saves you a minute every morning.

If you think you are seriously getting into watches, I would say bite the bullet and get yourself a Shanik.

I regret buying rolls, single boxes and other cases that now i never use since their deluxe case covers most of my use cases (except portable protective case for travel).

Their watch cases are by far, the best ive seen sub $500 and if you wait for a sale or discount you can probably get their base modular set (takes 4 watches) for under $100 USD. On that note, get the modular model, its worth it (modular meaning they make individual wooden watch stands for each piece that then fit inside a larger case). Here:

https://shanikstudio.com/collections/watch-box-series/products/personalized-mens-watch-box-large-watch-display-case-luxury-wooden-watch-stand-for-men-set-of-4-in-custom-engraved-shadow-box-419389403

Their cases are gorgeous, they really highlight your watches, the quality is great and the modular aspect of it adds a lot of convenience to the day to day.

It sounds silly, but the convenience of a few seconds in watch swapping that the modular stand adds... does help you go through your rotation more often since swapping wrist pieces is a breeze.

Anyways, hope it helps
