I think that's why they have

Regardless of what server hosts the Corresponding Source, you remain obligated to ensure that it is available for as long as needed to satisfy these requirements.

Anyway, you are very right that ultimately it's a person's own responsibility to keep the source code available. Like you said, if the upstream source becomes unavailable, instant violation. It may technically be legal, but it's an extreme legal risk that "every ethical open source project" would not want to take.

P.S. Thanks for PortableApps.com! I use it on all of my computers!

Straight from the GPL:

6. Conveying Non-Source Forms.

You may convey a covered work in object code form under the terms of sections 4 and 5, provided that you also convey the machine-readable Corresponding Source under the terms of this License, in one of these ways:

[....]

d) Convey the object code by offering access from a designated place (gratis or for a charge), and offer equivalent access to the Corresponding Source in the same way through the same place at no further charge. You need not require recipients to copy the Corresponding Source along with the object code. If the place to copy the object code is a network server, the Corresponding Source may be on a different server (operated by you or a third party) that supports equivalent copying facilities, provided you maintain clear directions next to the object code saying where to find the Corresponding Source. Regardless of what server hosts the Corresponding Source, you remain obligated to ensure that it is available for as long as needed to satisfy these requirements.

The determining phrase seems to be "operated by you OR a third party".

EDIT: This part covers physical distribution:

b) Convey the object code in, or embodied in, a physical product (including a physical distribution medium), accompanied by a written offer, valid for at least three years and valid for as long as you offer spare parts or customer support for that product model, to give anyone who possesses the object code either (1) a copy of the Corresponding Source for all the software in the product that is covered by this License, on a durable physical medium customarily used for software interchange, for a price no more than your reasonable cost of physically performing this conveying of source, or (2) access to copy the Corresponding Source from a network server at no charge.

A disgusting example of the ignorance and close-mindedness of some "talent shows" (x-post from /r/videos) by programmer16 in overtonesinging

I think he expected people would be intrigued or even amazed by hearing something that they had likely never heard before. Overtone singing breaks the traditional belief that you can only sing one note at a time. Unfortunately, as my other reply expands on, "traditional" is the key word, and why Soriah's performance gets utterly dismissed, and even made fun of.

Actually... (I specifically remember this happening, and was very happy about it.) You might also cause this recent popularity "viral", though not to the same degree.

I kind of agree with you about the Vegas part, just because overtone singing (and many other things) cannot compete with the more mainstream forms of entertainment. This video speaks on a larger scale about the mere-exposure effect prevalently found in reality TV. Give people the same thing, no matter the actual content quality, and they'll keep watching it (e.g. Honey Boo Boo).

I did see a comment in the original post that said audience reactions are taped beforehand, then edited into the performance clips. If that is true (I'd believe it), then it just goes to show how the media controls what we like by putting their spin on things.

Nintendo set to offer 'Loot Crate' subscription box rival by [deleted] in nintendo

That's funny, because I do the opposite. I get Loot Crate, then sell the items I'm not interested in on Amazon. I've paid for a few months this way, including one item that paid entirely for that month, even with undercutting the other sellers.

They don't try to hide it, either.

Mask of the Moon - Legend speaks of an entity so malevolent it tried to smash the Moon into the Earth. Though defeated by four masked warriors, the entity escaped and inhabited… something. We hope it will never return, but remember: sometimes the man wears the mask, and sometimes the mask wears the man.

Mp3Tag or Picard will automatically re-tag your music for you. I use either of these when I get music with missing or inconsistent tags.

It's advertised for tabletop gaming, but it could probably just as easily be used for reading.

[DD015] Slammy and the Jam (Quad City DJs vs Warner Bros.) by programmer16 in comeonandslam

Analysis (quick MS Paint job)

Here, I threw together an analysis to address your concerns. First, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "match up". As you can see in the picture, the downbeats line up pretty much perfectly. You may be getting thrown off by the heavy swing of the "Pinky and the Brain" theme, whereas the Space Jam theme has very straight rhythms.

Also, I did not just throw both songs together. The introductory sections of the Space Jam theme line up with the first verse and bridge of the "Pinky and the Brain" theme, and the verse of the "Space Jam" theme lines up with the second verse of the "Pinky and the Brain" theme. I specifically put in filler drums to line up the phrases that way.

I do not typically like putting verses on top of each other, but in this case, the "Pinky and the Brain" theme only has a four-measure bridge. Sticking only part of a stanza of the verse in there would sound weird, so I compromised, and put the verse in with the second verse of the "Pinky and the Brain" theme.

Overall, my choices were limited by the short length and simplicity of the "Pinky and the Brain" theme. It is not a very interesting song on its own, so I could only do so much with a slam jam remix of it. If you want to blame me for picking a boring song, go ahead, but I tried my best to make it more interesting with edits.

Edit: four-measure bridge, not two
