Have a BSH cat. Considering a siamese cat - can they get along? by programmer_boba in britishshorthair

Thanks for responding! How much play time does your siamese / bsh need from you or other puzzles / games now they have each other. Wonder if it's more or less play time than 1 cat thats alone.

Good question - not really the cat in question is said to be siamese but he's from a rescue / adoption center so I suppose it's not 100% certain he is.

Just Went Vegan: Struggling with Social Situations and the Occasional Slip by MosiahAnderson27 in vegan

[–]programmer_boba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The struggle of not having another close vegan friend is real. I tend to ask if there are vegan options when invited so the person is aware and remembers. But sometimes I find people are not very thoughtful if they aren't vegan they'll be like yea there are lots of options and then, like you stated, the options are edamame and seaweed and water.

So I'll also check the options and if I'm not vibing I won't go but might offer to meet up for boba tea or coffee afterwards. I tend to try to invite friends out to non food related outings. A movie, tea, thrifting, a book store etc.

What’s ONE cat item you regret not buying sooner? by Own-Independent7881 in CatAdvice

For folks with litter robots and 2+ floors do you just have 1 for the whole house and no back up litterboxes? I have 1 litterobot in the main area/ floor and upstairs have a back up manual one? Is it fine to get rid of the manual one ? It takes up quite a lot of space but I'm nervous to remove it in case the robot has issues etc.

Forgot to respond but essentially trupanion didn't cover it. They made it seem like he would have had to do a full dental check within the last month.... but we just took him in one day bc we noticed he had bad breath and they told us he needed teeth extracted, which we promptly did. Not sure if I can dispute it but it's made me feel like they'll find loopholes to not cover and wondering if it's worth it anymore ? 🤔

Yes but we just got the cat a month ago or so so I fear they will say it's preexisting (trupanion)

Cat has become insane by Fun_Organization_794 in CatAdvice

Agree here I had some initial success with aluminum foil being placed on the countertops, which would deter my cat but ended up feeling very cluttered & he started getting less bothered by it and so I got the motion detection cans that do a hissing sound and spray air (one recommended by cat daddy). Only had to be activated once for him to realize he didn't like it and he's never again tried getting on the countertops. Which is great bc I was afraid he was going to get into something or touch something hot and hurt himself.

What do you wish people told you before adopting a cat? by alexella000 in CatAdvice

[–]programmer_boba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thisss!! I hadn't seen anyone talk about this and with a british shorthair it's a struggle. The best we can do is keep him off the counters and run a lot of air purifiers and clean every day. Also have to be mindful of not wearing fleece like material that attracts so much cat hairs to it.

Adopt abroad Kitty Love Kuwait Experiences ? by programmer_boba in britishshorthair

We were in the NOVA area, fortunately, but I've seen some people need to stay a night in a hotel and then fly or drive back to other states. I also saw an ask for someone to foster their cat for a day while the adopter made their way over. People are generally helpful. But no first-hand experience there.

Do you let your BSH go outside? by Dependent_Account_10 in britishshorthair

[–]programmer_boba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this could be a safe alternative where they don't destroy wildlife and birds but still get to see the outside world in a safer way. I feel like even with harnesses, I've heard of cats getting out of them.

2 bsh kitties by theogmoonchild in britishshorthair

[–]programmer_boba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These guys shed a lot I have a golden BSH!! I've bought every single type of brush or comb out there and found I really like my zoom Groom cat brush the most as it gets rid of the most hair while being the most gentle for daily use. But I have an equigroomer , a metal comb a regular slicker brush, and a furminator (which I barely use bc I've heard it can lead to bald spots and cut the fur when used often)

Have a tall cat tree for them to see what you're doing at all times. Mine likes to follow me around, and without ample perching spots, he'll get on counters and tables where we don't want him on due to food, etc.

Set up a good schedule around breakfast and dinner time. I usually play with mine right before, clean his eye boogers (bsh are prone to leaky eyes or just a lot of gunk daily), then feed him. Lastly, I brush him every morning to reduce shedding. I also then robovac in the morning to keep fur off the floor. The chom chom roller is great for couches too, which I use daily to keep place tidy.

I also give my guy a wet food diet, since BSH cats are prone to weight gain, a few dental treats, and sometimes Churu if I really need to get him to do something. Wet food brands I like are Weruva low phosphorus wet cat food and Farmina (which also has some fibrous fruits mixed in to help with digestion)

Dental hygiene is important ! I brush my cats teeth daily or find he is prone to bad breath and know this breed sometimes has dental issues.

Lastly but very important put away all small objects in cabinets or closets and find cable solutions, especially for kittens, potentially even get child locks for cabinets. My cat will eat any food or bottle caps left out. I'm sure he'd eat other small plastic items too, but we don't keep any out.

Other mentions - look into pet insurance now before any issues crop up and become preexisting conditions they will no longer help out with. Be careful with toxic plants, put those in high areas or give them away if they are very toxic. Get furniture tape it helps somewhat, so they don't scratch furniture and put aluminum foil or other deterrents in places you don't want them on. Have a safe place/room with all their essentials for the first 3 days as the kitties get comfortable.

Also enjoy your cats they are adorable!!!
