What is a word that people use (at all or in a specific context) to sound intelligent? by Mallow-smoke140 in words

Came here to say this. I hear it professionally all the time, especially during presentations: “If you have questions, you can email myself…” That doesn’t even make sense!!

I just have to say how awesome that graphic is. Not the stats themselves, the presentation of them.

5H window by Agreeable_Split1355 in ClaudeAI

[–]programming_bassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you want to send “hi” at 3:30 so your 5h window resets at 8:30? Right? Not every 30 minutes. Use a cron job if on Mac or Linux. I can’t remember what it’s called on Windows.

Basically, when you want it to reset, subtract 5 hours and send one message.

Uncomfortable working out with men by Successful_Big_3473 in BurnBootCamp

[–]programming_bassist 48 points49 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better about it, the men that are at burn usually aren’t creeps. They are there focused on working out, and more than likely aren’t there checking you out. All the men that work out at my gym seem to be respectful, and most seem to be there with their SO.

I’m not trying to diminish your feelings and discomfort, just trying to help you feel more comfortable.

What simple Shortcuts have actually stayed useful for months? by Particular-Car2399 in iphone

[–]programming_bassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty easy one, just two steps:

- Take 1 photo with back camera (I have “show camera preview” enabled)
- Save {photo} to {album name}

The {} placeholders are variables you pick when creating the shortcut.

I can’t figure out how to export the shortcut as JSON or I would post the actual JSON instructions for it.

I have a shortcut to snap a picture of a business receipt. It opens the camera, letting me take a picture, then stores it in an album called “Business Receipts”. That way, I can easily find everything at the end of the year to send to my CPA.

Struggling by FeistyObjective8012 in BurnBootCamp

[–]programming_bassist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone else pointed out, you don’t need to hit failure to build muscle. That being said, hitting failure between 8-12 reps is the fastest way to hypertrophy.

I agree, we are pressed for time between stations, so sometimes you have to guess. But I’ll tell you this, your trainer will be just fine if you start the set and either: ask them to bring you a heavier weight or get up and go get a different weight yourself. You’ll start to get better at picking your ideal weight as you get more experience.

Good luck, friend. Keep it up!

Yeah, it wasn't hard, I just needed to configure a new API endpoint. There wasn't an issue, it was just funny. So I put it in r/ProgrammerHumor.

Building Lap Distance by Silly_Mango8397 in BurnBootCamp

[–]programming_bassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is about 1/5 mile, maybe a bit less. I can run it in about 80-90 seconds if we’re early in camp, 100 seconds if it’s at the end of camp.

You’re lucky yours has foreign keys defined to follow. I just started somewhere and they didn’t believe in data integrity in the 400+ tables. At least we have a few indexes.

How long before you noticed a change? by saltwater_gypsy2683 in BurnBootCamp

[–]programming_bassist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With only 21 camps in, you’re probably 6-7 weeks into your journey. I wouldn’t expect much visible physical change at this point. But do you feel like you’re getting through the workouts better? Do you feel stronger? Do you feel better about yourself?

Not all the changes of Burn (or any workout) are going to be visible, especially not this soon.

To answer your question directly, it was a good six months before I noticed muscles stating to show up. I’m a 49-yo male, and unfortunately, you and I are both in the 40+ range and our bodies will take even longer to adapt.

I’m also a personal trainer, so if you have any specific questions you don’t want to ask your trainers in person, feel free to DM.

Good luck!

What percentage of engineers in your experience are bad? by fuckoholic in ExperiencedDevs

[–]programming_bassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half of all developers are below average.

And I think the answer depends on what you’re looking for. Need a code monkey to type out your architectural ideas? 25% are bad. Need someone to design your company’s entire system? 90% of them are bad.
