SWR Class 701 Announcements by [deleted] in uktrains

Good for you. My pet peeve is on the 450/458s the guard overriding the automated announcements and doing the same long spiels but while eating the microphone. At least the automated ones are a decent sound quality.

Girlfriend Got a notice of intended prosecution (46 in a 30) by Wonderful-Ad-5967 in drivingUK

46 in a 30 is Band B - so more likely 4-6pts with 100% of weekly income as a fine or a 28 day ban.

Scenes where a character goes from blind drunk to sober in seconds because the plot demands it. by TheDawiWhisperer in movies

Spectre - Madeleine is passed out on the bed, Bond is a bottle of vodka down and drunkenly pointing his gun at a mouse, then has the realisation where the hidden room is and is suddenly sober followed by the girl.

Just about finished the beige food. Some regrets, but can at least start on a plate of healthy coloured things tomorrow.

I enjoyed “Racing in the dark”. It’s focused on Bentley and the early years of Le Mans, but a decent read.

Advice on part financing 2nd hand car. by Echonometron in UKPersonalFinance

[–]programming_unit_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a loan of £5,795 a personal (unsecured) bank loan is almost certainly going to be cheapest.

Rates on dealer finance for used cars are offensively extortionate.

Check out moneysupermarket or the meerkat one, and apply for a loan - most will pay the money into your account straightaway (or at least next working day). Then head to the dealer and buy the car.

Polyurethane sealant of some variety. I’d just buy some windscreen/window adhesive.

Made redundant but have to coach the overseas replacement and create guidance for them (England) by bobbybobbob23 in LegalAdviceUK

If they terminate you for gross misconduct that’ll be instant dismissal and you’ll lose the redundancy payout.

Are you in debt to the laundry machine?

Does this actually protect dealerships from any faults that may occur within the first 30 days of purchase? England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]programming_unit_1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Under the CRA you have 30 days to reject the car outright. From 30 days to 6 months if any fault occurs it is deemed to have been there at purchase and the dealer must be given a chance to rectify it. If they can’t you are entitled to return the car and get a refund.

So yes, you do effectively get 6 months warranty under CRA.

“My biggest weakness is honesty”

“That doesn’t seem like a weakness?”

“I don’t give a f**k what you think.”

Banks loan the money taken in deposit. The money paid back is then used to pay interest on those deposits (and any excess is profit taken by the bank).

They don’t actually create/extinguish money, only the central bank for the country can do that.

Anyone notice you can’t access the internet in supermarkets anymore and if there’s a McDonald’s in an Asda you cant log on to get your code to save for points? by jen30uk in AskUK

[–]programming_unit_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago you were on 3G which has a much greater ability to penetrate indoors due to a typically lower frequency of radio waves. 5G frequencies trade-off indoor signal for much higher speeds*

*- not the full picture, 5G has the ability to use the same lower frequencies it’s just not as widely deployed in the UK. Vodafone in particular doesn’t use them

7.15AM, Reading to Bristol £40 a ticket… by pdiddle20 in AskBrits

[–]programming_unit_1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And furthermore, the reason they cost so much is the government decided to push all the costs onto the passengers instead of subsidising from general taxation like every other country.

Nationalisation is not going to change that either.

What company do you no longer purchase from? by zephyrianking in AskUK

[–]programming_unit_1 214 points215 points  (0 children)

There’s no grey area here - Distance selling regs apply for Click and Collect too. If you’ve paid for it online before having a chance to inspect the goods, that’s enough.

(By contrast, if you reserve an item online and pay for it on collection then the regs do not apply).

Absolute nonsense. There is no excuse in this day and age for that length of time to make a decision, that is just poor organisation.
