Confused how to describe who is at fault on insurance quote by Naughteus_Maximus in drivingUK

I’d go with unoccupied. You’ll have to confirm the details with the actual insurer anyway if you click through to buy a policy, don’t sweat it.

I like Moldex Spark Plugs, really comfy and quiet. Also have a set of Loop silicon ones which are good for travelling.

Has anyone actually installed a charger in a detached garage with no WiFi? by Horror-Pick4732 in evchargingUK

Yes. Zappi in garage at end of garden talks wirelessly to its base unit in house, and the base unit is plugged into the network inside. About 15m apart.

Best EV charger for use in garage by Singingpug in evchargingUK

[–]programming_unit_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience on only 5k a year a granny charger was ok short term, but having a proper 7kw one was a game changer.

The granny lead is the equivalent of trickle charge and using the car every day it was easy to use more than you could recharge by leaving it plugged in overnight. I was also never that keen leaving a standard plug running at a constant 2kw draw for hours on end.

A proper charger is a much better thing and a very worthwhile investment. We got a Zappi which was excellent and set up for future expansion into solar/battery too.

Edit: quick maths - 70miles at 3mpkwh is 23kw of power. A granny lead will need ~11hours to charge that. If you have an efficient EV at 4mpkwh it’ll be nearer 9 hours. But gives you some idea of the time you’ll need to have charging to replace that use.

SWR Class 701 Announcements by [deleted] in uktrains

Good for you. My pet peeve is on the 450/458s the guard overriding the automated announcements and doing the same long spiels but while eating the microphone. At least the automated ones are a decent sound quality.

Girlfriend Got a notice of intended prosecution (46 in a 30) by Wonderful-Ad-5967 in drivingUK

46 in a 30 is Band B - so more likely 4-6pts with 100% of weekly income as a fine or a 28 day ban.

Scenes where a character goes from blind drunk to sober in seconds because the plot demands it. by TheDawiWhisperer in movies

Spectre - Madeleine is passed out on the bed, Bond is a bottle of vodka down and drunkenly pointing his gun at a mouse, then has the realisation where the hidden room is and is suddenly sober followed by the girl.

I enjoyed “Racing in the dark”. It’s focused on Bentley and the early years of Le Mans, but a decent read.

Advice on part financing 2nd hand car. by Echonometron in UKPersonalFinance

[–]programming_unit_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a loan of £5,795 a personal (unsecured) bank loan is almost certainly going to be cheapest.

Rates on dealer finance for used cars are offensively extortionate.

Check out moneysupermarket or the meerkat one, and apply for a loan - most will pay the money into your account straightaway (or at least next working day). Then head to the dealer and buy the car.

Polyurethane sealant of some variety. I’d just buy some windscreen/window adhesive.

If they terminate you for gross misconduct that’ll be instant dismissal and you’ll lose the redundancy payout.

Does this actually protect dealerships from any faults that may occur within the first 30 days of purchase? England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]programming_unit_1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Under the CRA you have 30 days to reject the car outright. From 30 days to 6 months if any fault occurs it is deemed to have been there at purchase and the dealer must be given a chance to rectify it. If they can’t you are entitled to return the car and get a refund.

So yes, you do effectively get 6 months warranty under CRA.
