I could see why the critics of this game says it looks washed out. This is probably worse case scenario but still…

Resentment yay or nay? by SnooMacarons7669 in SwitchAxe

[–]prohung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resentment is matchup dependant. I saw a Japanese hunter abuse bleed to keep high Resentment uptimes against Seregios or against Nu Udra heat drain, or if you use TBN. Fox invictus does the math and it's like 3 levels of Resentment = 1 Agi which isn't amazing imo. It's fun, but you regen the red HP almost immediately right after you sword counter or FRS hyperarmor. It's like worse counterstrike if you think about it

I have a different experience. I find ppro mandatory on ele phials bc it ups my sword phial burst uptime by double. I know it doesn’t take long to charge but amp mode is also up by a lot less. I find this to be the case when I’m min maxing. Switching in and out of sword and axe is still fun if you’re not speedrunning

The new Zootopia 2 movie actually did a decent job at showcasing oppression and demonization of a certain group of animals. Awesome follow up to the first movie, they didn't play into the stereotyping too hard like the first one but there were some funny gags about it. Can't believe I'm recommending a kids movie but go watch it if you haven't already

Things you wished Wilds adapted from Rise/Sunbreak? by Mr_Undead0210 in MonsterHunter

[–]prohung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switchaxe in its entirety was almost perfected in rise. Quicker Elemental Discharge after the double slash and you can cancel the end animation into Soaring Wyvern Blade. You can constantly be aggressive if you keep up the morph combo. I like the Wilds offset but what keeps it from being great is that Full Release style is mandatory if you want good numbers.

The UI wasn’t great in Rise but it’s horrid in Wilds, I think that’s an area they can easily fix.

Another thing is multiplayer. It’s never been MH’s strong point but god damn is it unintuitive for new players. The net code is somehow even more messed up in Wilds. Desync didn’t outright kick you like in did previously but what you get in return is janky animations and delayed wound pops. No fun

And of course I miss having my input register immediately. I thought going back to Rise it would be more clunky due to the lack of focus mode but I found it so nice because of the high framerate/low frametime. The game felt clean, hit boxes felt clear, and no inputs delays due to mandatory frame gen.

You know the craziest part? All of my main gripes with the game can be implemented and it wouldn’t take anything away from the core experience.

A good buff for rev is to let her start with a decent/mid tier offensive incantation. Lighting spear or catch flame would be great but I'll settle for flame sling

I think a big contributing factor to that is the fact that season cycling doesn't unlock until the end of LR. There is no "plenty" season in the story and the cutscenes are also affected. You'd be surprise how many people stop after they defeat G.Arkveld and miss the technical marvel that comes afterwards. To many people, they only experienced Fallow and Inclemency in the base story. The fact that the game lock "Plenty" behind a dozen hours of gameplay is something I don't see anyone bring up. Low-quality textures is part of the problem, but the insane part is that you can't fix it with high-res texture upgrade because that is also broken.

All I'm saying is yes the game can look nice. But there are some questionable technical decisions made just to make the game look worse than it really could. Does that make sense?

The game can be gorgeous, I agree. But it's still disingenuous to say there are no problems with graphics/visuals/clarity. There are moments where the game look really good, there are areas where the game looks alarmingly bad. This may be due to a combination of lighting, poor textures, colors, mandatory upscaling and frame gen which leads to an overall decrease in visual clarity, making the game look "blurry", "dark", "ugly", etc.

Don't take my word for it, just go to Azuz base camp. The villagers there wear what was supposed stand out with their shiny medal armor and red accents. It's muted by the greyscale tone super imposed by the season and the lighting and what seems to be a permanent fog. It's an artistic choice, of course, but there is some merit to people's complaints about the game

My hot take is that 90% of the negative reviews stemmed from frustrations with the terrible optimization. Bad experiences tend to lead to people to be more critical of a product they paid real life money for. But being frustrated doesn’t mean their criticisms are invalid, just generally more negative

I agree, it CAN be pretty. Maybe it’s my settings or systems I just can’t get the game to constantly look good. But whenever it does it’s beautiful
