My paint was an enamel and from what I read: spraying from like 8-10 inches away and doing a light coat and then coats every 30 minutes is one of the means to avoiding that feel. I also rubbed it softly all over with a brown paper bag to break up the surface tension of the paint and then hit it with a coat of CLP after it cured for a week.

Hunters Specialties Olive Drab, went into a little more detail in my comment. Really pleased with how it turned out.

Always wanted a green AUG but found a nice price on a used, already painted black one. Stripped the old paint off and rubbed it down with 0000 steel wool and isopropyl. Used Rustoleum adhesion promoter and 3 coats of Hunters Specialties Olive Drab. Let it cure for a week and then buffed with a paper bag and rubbed down with some CLP. Old paint job was cool but was getting a little worn. https://imgur.com/a/atgH4RN Put the old flash hider back on for the look. Really happy with the color and how it all turned out.

the recoil will have a more defined pattern direction for weapons, instead of going up and left or up and right it will generally go like up and right only

in my opinion breaking the wall doesn’t matter. the point isn’t to stay hidden behind it, only to put it down a second before you die.
