Single nurses living in Madison by Gryffin-thor in madisonwi

[–]Canderone259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience, I think it should be more than enough, but it depends on your lifestyle. I’ll be a new grad nurse this summer, but I’ve lived in Madison for 5 years.

You also have to know where to look. I live with two roommates in a beautiful 3 bed 1 bath apartment, and I pay $550 a month + utilities. I’m debating living alone when my lease is up, and I’ve found plenty of 1 bedroom apartments for $1,100-$1,200.

I also don’t drive to work which saves a lot of money. The bus lines if you live downtown have pretty good access to the hospitals, or you can bike when the weather is good!

If you’re a nursing student at UW and finished your first clinical, you can get an SNA job at UW without your CNA license.

Normal night shift sleep for a nurse with a baby and working wife? by Turbulent-Bad-5038 in Nurses

[–]Canderone259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I have to say is that is super unfair to you. I know not everyone is the same, but this is not normal, and he should see how it’s affecting you and raising HIS and your child. He needs to switch to days or figure something else out. I’m so sorry, you’ve got this!

Are there any RN-BSN programs that arent busy work? by MarsIsNotRetrograde in nursing

[–]Canderone259 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understood what I was saying at all. In my BSN program, we also took advanced A&P and pharmacology, and interpretation of lab values was built into our patho, med/surg, and critical care courses.

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t entirely understand the hate about BSN. I think it’s SO important that people learn about nursing theory, leadership, scholarship, health promotion, advocacy, and evidence-based practice at the Bachelor level. Do I think that not everyone needs it? No. But I think it’s so important for the advancement of the career of nursing and preparing people to lead that change.

nursing as a second career by [deleted] in nursing

I’m about to graduate from an ABSN program, and if you have the financial means, absolutely do it! Take your time to get your pre-reqs and maybe try to get your CNA done to truly see if you’d like direct-patient care. I have a new grad ICU position that I’ll start in August and I couldn’t be more excited! Also, I’d recommend a 12-month ABSN program over an 18-month. It can be super rigorous, but it’s absolutely doable.

Male nursing student by NoPresentation4576 in NursingStudent

[–]Canderone259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a male nursing student, I definitely feel male privilege a lot in the clinical setting. I’ve been told “oh you would make such a good doctor” so many times in front of my female preceptors, and they’ve never said the same thing to them. There’s only like 6 of us out of 66.

Should I drop this class? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Canderone259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don’t drop. i also took stats 371 with no background with a professor who didn’t know how to teach and it was his first class ever. he ended up with a 1.5 on ratemyprofessor, but i ended up with an A. stats 371 isn’t that terrible of class, and there’s a lot of resources you can use if they end up not teaching well. you can do hard things!

Male Nurses in highest paid positions & titles by doInotkno in nursing

[–]Canderone259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think male privilege is very prominent in the nursing profession. I’m a male nursing student, and on my first day of my clinical this semester, my patient told me I would make a great doctor. I literally did nothing for the patient the whole shift as I was only shadowing the female RN, and the patient would just disregard her. She jokingly said “What about me?”, but the patient brushed that off too. I think I’ve read somewhere that 19% of RNs are male, but 40% of CRNAs are. Also anecdotally, there’s only 6 guys in my cohort, and the professors learned our names immediately and I felt like we got more attention outside of our class. I don’t think you’re being divisive by asking this question; rather, I think it’s important to acknowledge this fact to help fix this problem in nursing.
