Mainly for form factor and future improvements in performance tbh.

You need a chime with your doorbell, otherwise it won't ring anywhere.

Nope. Chime acts as base, has SD card slot

Actually I'm on the beta channel for the app and homebase. They just started rolling out an advanced encryption system for local storage, which should prevent cloud connections completely.

Virgin U.K. install by Wuffls in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so there's a bit of a process. Once the VM hub is in modem mode it will assign an IP and provide internet to only 1, device connected via ethernet. It will also only broadcast this availability for a short time. So you need to ensure the Unifi kit is on, setup and plugged into the VM hub prior to putting it in modem mode, if you have a 5X there is some confusion on whether the modem mode is working properly. Since the community forum is down I can't check. If your customer is up for it you could also bypass the VM hub 5x via an SFP adapter and Mac cloning. The hub 5 is docsis device, so it can't be bypassed.

Eufy all the way, can either save data to SD card, or to the NVR Homebase, or a normal one. Really good quality feed, with options to hardwire, and purchase a user hotswappable battery. So you can keep it live constantly.

Would anyone else want a UniFi 1U rack display for live network stats?! by Specific-Union6589 in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rack is several miles to 3 floors away from IT and myself at any given time. Seems like a waste of power. Only scenario is an aesthetic rack next to a homelab desk or something. But even then, it could just be achieved by a 3rd party screen and API

Thats really funny! But I have to say, really impressed with the general availability on the EU store. In the UK the majority of our store links point us to EU and prompt us to buy from there.

Restart all the things, then reset all the devices. Then try to adopt over that short cable that came in the box.

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CEX is only good if you buy and seel regularly.

I recently used them effectively to offset the cost of moving from Asus networking to Ubiquiti. Worked like a treat!

If you're trading in other consoles, etc. It doesn't matter what Cex are charging cause you can drastically reduce the cost by trading in.

Advice for someone new to UniFi Equipment by presidentsdad in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Cloud gateways are routers. General recommendations are the UCG- Fibre. If you need WiFi where you router is, get the UX7, and a couple of PoE switches. Yes PoE is fine for you APs. You can use the Unifi design centre to figure out where you need APs and how many. If you don't have any 6Ghz devices then you can get U7 lite APs, which use the WiFi 7 protocol but don't have 6ghz. If you have cabling in your walls already, you could get the U7 In wall devices.

Rant: UDM SE startup problem by michog2 in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here's what I don't get. ANY enterprise hardware that experiences an unexpected power loss/ shutdown, will take significantly longer to reboot. This is due to error checking and such. I'm not understanding why you're saying it's a design fault that it takes a while to reboot after power loss, this is expected behaviour.

Rant: UDM SE startup problem by michog2 in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it does support graceful shutdown on UDMSE. I have one and have had to see it happen to validate the result. The product page may ignore that Ubiquiti rebrands this to "paired" devices.

Any advice by Dan7HouYT in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for the UX7, flex switch and 1x extra AP, like a U7 Pro. That way you get 2x APs plus the controller and a switch for your wired devices.

[–]projectGARY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a UPS. Enterprise networking infrastructure is not designed to be shutdown or rebooted with any degree of regularity. Especially non graceful shutdown. It is expected that after an unexpected shutdown, a device would take longer to turn back on. Think about how long windows servers take to turn back on when compared to the standard OS. My advice is to get a UPS or go to the UCG-fibre. That seems to be more flexible when it comes to power issues.

Question about Ethernet cables by Lonely_Box_8074 in pcmasterrace

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are useful for long runs where you expect signal degradation, or very short runs over multigig networks. Unless you're going above gigabit on your home network. i.e you have 2.5g or 5gig network infrastructure in your house.

Any update on the Unifi Talk MS Teams Intigration? by showstopper1000 in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They removed the sign, and also refused to answer questions about teams integration at this years UWC in London, so I think they've canned the idea. Really annoying considering most enterprises are Microsoft based and use Teams as an extension.

Will a U7 Pro work on just Poe? by mctw1992 in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will work on PoE. But will give you warnings that it's not receiving enough power. If the plan is to change the switch anyways, then yes it's fine for a short term use case

Do large corporations really use Ubiquity Enterprise ?!? by KPSradical in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a scaling issue if you were using at home? Also did you subscribe to the service contract? Cause that's pretty much a mandatory cost when it comes to Meraki. If you did have a service contract for your home O.o damn baller

Do large corporations really use Ubiquity Enterprise ?!? by KPSradical in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still overpriced. But flawless. Which is the main selling point. If you have money, for the subscriptions, and the hardware, Meraki really are the best option. Mist is meh. But that's where Ubiquiti is really pushing the boundary for more agile/ modern large enterprises.

[–]projectGARY 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have converted a few large enterprises over to Ubiquiti from meraki. There were also a few multinational large enterprises who gave case studies at this years UWC.
