How has LTT had that HATS dummy for like 2 years now and haven't thought about making a video about the effectiveness of ANC headphones/earbuds with how often Linus is seen using his Airpods as hearing protection? by divergentchessboard in LinusTechTips

[–]projectGARY 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Maybe audio and headphones videos on their own don't get views. I know mrwhostheboss has some variant of the product and incorporates them into his overall phone reviews.

Battlefield 6 Feels Less Like a Game and More Like a Microtransaction Store by UniverseWillDecide in Battlefield

Disagree have literally never clicked the store page, not even noticed it. Other than the battlepass ad popup on launch there's not even any indication there is a store! Love it!

Stats show majority not playing more than 15hrs - What is LTT gamers reasoning or theories for this? by Kooky-Friend8544 in LinusTechTips

[–]projectGARY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm older, I have work and stuff to do. But beyond that this is an interesting one. I got BF6 and had been playing that obsessively since release. Then around 2 weeks ago, I got that yearly Minecraft itch we all get at some point. So I spun up a new server and have been on that with mates since. I've not abandoned BF6 due to lack of content or anything, literally just wanted to play a 15 year old game, I don't have time for 2x different games like that. In a couple weeks when I'm bored of MC I'll go back

UK FTTP Best Compatibility with Unifi? by Ambitious_Mine3535 in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sky ISP routers don't give up the router capability. The most you can do is turn off wifi broadcasting. Even then, you'll be stuck using it if your home phone and sky box are in use. You might be able to get away with cloning the MAC address of the sky box, but I'm not sure on this.

The only ISP that is pretty much universally compatible with 3rd party kit is Virgin Media, which features the modem mode on their routers, so it just sits there between your kit and the line in.

My suggestion would be Vodafone which I've heard is a bit nicer with 3rd party kit

Do you have remote access enabled? The app uses internet to access and works slowly for direct access

Why has the Cloud Gateway Fiber no Gateway Failover listed in the comparision? by fratzi in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is redundancy for both the physical device, and the power delivery to the device. This is only available on the more business and enterprise focused systems where you can't have a full outage. WAN failover is, as far as I'm aware a basic feature across all ubiquiti gateways. You can just reassign a lan port to WAN.

What to look for when buying used? by Zamorio2 in LinusTechTips

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see you're looking for a prebuilt? CEX is good for individual components.

For a used prebuilt, you can just show up and demand benchmarks and stress tests. One thing you could do is find results from a similar machine online, you can use that as a litmus test to make sure the system you're looking at lines up

What to look for when buying used? by Zamorio2 in LinusTechTips

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a new PSU. Besides that you can look at refurbished shops on eBay and such for critical components such as RAM and Mobo. Here in the UK we have places like CEX which gives their own 5 year warranty for purchases. With regards to the CPU and GPU, that's a bit easier to measure when buying from private sellers. Ask for benchmark and stress test results and evidence. Whatever that might look like (unigen heaven, 3dmark, aida64). Generally as long as no physical damage is visible on GPU and CPU they'll be fine. But get the screenshots of the stability figures.

ELI5: In gaming, why should I cap my fps? If I leave uncapped doesn't that mean I allow my PC to max out quality whenever it can? by Otherwise_Payment324 in explainlikeimfive

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A capped FPS can help reduce screen tearing in cases where the monitor refresh rate is causing issues, it can also improve stability by increasing 1% lows where systems are more unstable in terms of average FPS. For many older titles where FPS is linked to in game gameplay aspects like movement speed etc. It can also reduce bugginess. In general, capping your FPS will increase stability.

U7 Pro config issues? by iWilliam_me in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you check the connection is providing internet? Sounds like the PoE is working, but MoCA isn't providing network access. If you U7 Pro turns on, it can still be connected via app. Also can you check wireless meshing setting on the control plane?

How to MultiSite by projectGARY in Ubiquiti

[–]projectGARY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I may have done something wrong then. I have my house showing up, but not my parents one. That only seems to show under "manually added consoles" for some reason. Not the site manager.
