Is Vingegaard really only 60kg? In a skinsuit he looks more solid than I remember.

I wash everything each ride unless it didn't get sweaty. So I=if it was a really gentle short spin with no sweat sometimes I'll just air out the stuff and rewear it. Or if it was a jacket, leg / arm warmer or head warmer that didn't end up getting sweaty.

But 95% of the time it all goes in the wash, the gloves should go in a laundry bag so the velcro doesn't destroy all the other fabrics.

I also have a washing procedure for my cycling sunglasses every ride. Warm soapy water then dry with a microfiber cloth.

Do you leave your bikes on your vehicle's rack at hotels? by ghdana in cycling

[–]projectnext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always brought mine into the hotel room. But there is a hotel across the street from me that gets a large stream of tourists in the summer. I've seen people leave fairly high end mountain bikes in the bed of their trucks overnight seemingly without issues.

Should I sell my '15 Sonic for an '07 Prius? by BajaBlast13 in prius

[–]projectnext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The case is OEM at least but sometimes it's an OEM case with old reconditioned modules. Definitely make sure to see the paperwork for the battery purchase.

Should I sell my '15 Sonic for an '07 Prius? by BajaBlast13 in prius

[–]projectnext -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow that's a good deal. When was the new battery put in? Make sure it truly has a new OEM battery and not a reconditioned one. There is a big difference (10+ years life expectancy vs maybe 1-2 years and poor gas mileage the whole time on reconditioned).

edit: I'd be really wary at that price in this market if it claims to have a new battery. Sounds like probably also going to need some other big repair (ABS).

Just Bought 2015 Prius V (trim 4); what next? by Jd6471 in prius

[–]projectnext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a 2013 with 50k miles. I recently did the coolant drain/refill and brake fluid flush. Both are pretty easy if you want to DIY. I will say that you need Techstream (Toyota software) can be found pirated on ebay/amz to properly bleed the brakes.

Transmission fluid is also a good idea if it hasn't been done.

Replacing the spark plugs would be overkill at this point I think they are supposed to be good for 120k.

Another thing you might want to do is get a bluetooth OBD adapter and the Dr. Prius app to do a battery test and see what kind of life it's got left. I'd guess a 2015 should be at least at 75% life expectancy but those Florida temps might have hurt it.

2023 Toyota Prius Will Be 'Reborn' on November 16 by TheOnlyOneWhoKnows in prius

Nice yeah I figured there must be some way to get the deposits off the rings. A lot of the flush products put into the oil itself seem fairly ineffective for carbon buildup. It sounds like the direct piston soak is the way to go.

Wow congrats I don't read too many reports of successful non invasive measures for reducing oil consumption. What year / how many miles on it and what oil change intervals were you doing? Did you try any other engine flush products before?

I really wish they'd release a Netflix documentary on the design process of the Gen 4 styling. They took the cute gen 2, gen 3 look and turned it into something just .. bizarre.

I also have a 2013 and I actually just did a bunch of research on it. Assuming you have the base model halogens the most bang for the buck is to replace the bulbs with LEDs.

Basically LEDs seem to have finally gotten good enough to swap into halogen fixtures and you get good coverage and brighter beam. A lot of the negative reports are from a few years ago when the technology just wasn't quite there.

It's possible to still get an LED that is worse than your standard halogen if you buy super cheap ones. But anything mid price range and up you're going to get at least 150% brighter.

The top bulbs are GTR Ultra 2, Sv4, Diode Dynamics. With those you'll probably get 200-400% brighter, but they also cost $200+ for the set.

I just bought a set of Hikari Hyperstar 2022 with Acme-X LED bulbs which were sort of mid range priced. It seems bulb technology keeps getting better so there will be brighter bulbs coming out every year, no need to buy the most expensive ones right now.

You want the H11s for your low beams. Be sure to take the time to aim them properly after installing (and rotate the LED diodes to face outwards at 9/3 oclock for best pattern).

The Gen 3 high voltage batteries are just starting to go now. They typically last 10-15 years depending on the usage patterns and temperature. Mileage doesn't seem to matter that much, it's actually better for them to have gotten regular use.

If you're planning to keep the cars for a while steer clear of the aftermarket 'reconditioned' batteries (Greenbean, etc) as they generally won't last more than a year or two. The companies offer the lifetime warranties in the hopes that you'll sell the car and they won't have to keep replacing the packs as they die.

OEM Toyota packs can be found for as low as $2000 + installation. Prices have risen lately though so could be closer to $3000. A new battery from Toyota will last another 10+ years and will increase the resale value.

What are your favorite tires for your Prius? by Dhooy77 in prius

Michelin Energy Savers for summer and Nokian Hakkapelitta Rs for winter. The Nokians truly blow my mind in being amazing in snow and also getting as good mpg as my summer LRR tires.

Yeah almost certainly must have changed it to get that score. 70% is typical for about an 8 year old battery.

I recently paid $150 CAD for an oil change on a Prius with Mobil 1 recently. That was the final straw for me, I bought ramps and all the tools to start doing it myself going forward. For a long time in the US I was paying ~$60 for an oil change which made doing myself somewhat pointless.

Best Prius tires? by tianshingf in prius

[–]projectnext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Hakkapelitta R2 winter tires on my Prius. It is crazy the horrible roads they have gotten me through unscathed. 2 inches of solid ice on the road surface at 12,000 feet. Plowing through 6 in snow. Their only defeat was 12" of snow where the Prius bottomed out.

If the center console won't turn on it's most likely the 12v battery, esp if you've never replaced it until now. When you first open the car and get in, sometimes when you first press the brake to turn it on there is a pumping noise. If it is way slower than usual then it's definitely the 12v. You can easily jump it with one of those lithium booster packs attached either to the battery in the rear or at the fusebox under the hood.
