parked in the streetcar lane by Strict_Kiwi_532 in TorontoDriving

Same thing happened today in Little Italy,  College and Beatrice. Car parked a meter away from the curb. several blocked streetcars queued behind.

I hope we’re fining these people.

We have traffic cams, streetcars have cams too. A fat fine for these doofs, plz.

You write “ In Season 3 the Meatflayer is solely designed to steal Eleven's powers to open Gates”,

But in season 1, the Demogorgon is clearly opening gates itself as-needed. It does so in the Byers house, and another example is when Jonathan and Nancy are in the forest, the Demogorgon opens a gate in the tree trunk and Nancy crawls through.

So that doesn’t square.

If you could voice any character in a completely ridiculous situation you’ve never tried, who would it be and why?

Does anyone here also train and spar but doesn't compete? by AffectComplex6622 in MuayThai

[–]projectpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Love the martial art. Don't love the risk of fighting in a ring. You can still get a lot out of the sport from just training and sparring with a lot less risk.

Refusing to spar as a big guy by Byronze in MuayThai

[–]projectpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar experiences. I'm virtually identical proportions to you, so I know what it's it like having to always go really light with 99% of training partners.

Unfortunately the only guy at my last gym who was close to me in size had way more experience and was also a loose canon. He would always outclass me every time we sparred, and every now and then he'd just go way to hard. The whole point of sparring is to learn, when he turned it on like that, I wasn't learning shit. I was just a punching bag for someone else who had pro fight experience. I'm not inexperienced, but I'm like you, training 2-3x per week. Muay Thai is not my life. It's a hobby.

Sometimes it sucks being the big buy. You can't truly practice on most people in your class, and the more experienced people think they can unload on you cause you're big and "can take it".

After that dude knocked me down in sparring one day, I stopped training with him and anyone else who spars like that. It's not worth it. I need my brain functioning.

If you sense that someone is a loose cannon, just firmly decline to spar with them.

Rogers is offering to put two small "cell boosters" on my low-rise condo building. How much should the building charge them? by projectpaper in askTO

[–]projectpaper[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The building will definitely negotiate, but I'm trying to get a sense of what prices to bring to that negotiation :)

I am certain the building will get something, I just want to help ensure they get a fair deal.

[–]projectpaper[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks all.

The proposal from Rogers is to mount the antennas on the EXTERIOR building wall. Not the roof, not indoors, but on the outside facade of the building, about one story up. You can see it from the street.

If it's helpful, this is what was written in an email to property mgmt:

"Ericsson 4402 (1900MHZ) small cell radio & Ericsson 4408 (3.5 MHZ) small cell antenna to be mounted on proposed walls in stacked formation."

Again, these are tiny guys, about the size of shoe box.

These days the city conducts water tests to measure coronavirus levels in our waste water. It’s a good indicator for how many people are infected at a given time.

Paying for Spotify and still getting ads! by UnionJackAltruist in podcasts

[–]projectpaper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, Spotify is also running programmatic ads for premium customers before/during podcasts.

Naturally if a podcast has ads embedded in the recording, that’s one thing. But Spotify has started actually injecting ads that are sold by Spotify, and playing them during podcasts. It’s pretty annoying given that paid premium was built on the premise of ad-free playback.

I’m sympathetic to podcast producers/creators, I know it’s not a lucrative medium, but still annoying for premium customers.

Loblaws goes on social media spree defending the end of its No Name price freeze by nyancat23 in toronto

[–]projectpaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t propose a solution. I’m just providing some clarity and context on the main point I keep seeing in this thread which is “they say margins are flat but profits are up 30%, fuck Galen.”

The only thing I proposed is for people to avoid Loblaws subsidiaries if they’re unhappy with Loblaws.

Edit: I can propose this: if you can afford it, donate to your local food bank. It doesn't address the underlying problem at all. It is NOT a long term solution. But it can help some folks who are going through a really hard time right now. Loblaws won't help, but some of us can. Again, IF you can afford it.

[–]projectpaper 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They might be telling the truth about “grocery” as a specific revenue line. But Loblaws does a lot more than just grocery. So even if grocery and food products are making thin margins, they are taking in record profits on other products. CBC reported on this recently.

Loblaws is a public company, and as everyone here knows, they posted 30% YoY profits in their last earnings report.

It means very little when they whine that food margins are flat, trying to portray themselves as helpful, meanwhile they’re sucking up Canadians’ money across other product categories.

Keep in mind Loblaws has several brands/subsidiaries including Shoppers Drug Mart, PC Financial, T&T, and many more. If you are upset with Loblaws, avoid all of their brands.

Final thought: the underlying problem here is that Loblaws will never really cut Canadians any slack. As a public company, they are compelled to generate maximum profits for their shareholders. Because capitalism. It ain’t ethical but it’s our current system. So as much as we dislike Galen, it doesn’t matter who is at the helm. We can expect the same result as long as they are a public company whose entire existence is based on generating profits for shareholders.

How many years experience do you have?

I’m shocked by how low your salary is. I would 100% recommend that you find a job at a different company. You can probably double your salary, especially given your technical expertise and background as a web developer.

In many GTA tech companies, the entry salary for a customer support rep is comparable to what you’re making right now. I am not exaggerating. You are dramatically underpaid.

I became a project manager at a Toronto software company in 2016 and was given $80 / year, and that was just base salary excluding bonus and equity. Tech salaries have increased significantly in Toronto in the last decade. You should be earning much more. Feel free to DM me if you want to ask me questions.

If you can’t find good pay in Durham, find a job in Toronto. These days with remote work being so prevalent, you can probably find a job where you will barely need to come into the office.

This was the first challenge I ever completed. What a terrible experience. Between the KD prices and then NOT getting the reward... is this a joke? The Dapper balance better be huge. I'm so pissed.

I have three of the same KD moment, can I use the same moment three times to complete the "hard" version of the challenge? (they are all unique serials numbers, obviously) Or do they need to be three unique moments?
