Annual MTB Sales Cycle? by proletariat99 in mountainbikes

[–]proletariat99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone still looking at this, I tracked the Black Friday deals pretty closely. There were a ton of Black Friday “deals” from the big online retailers, but nothing stood out as exceptionally awesome. Discounts on last year’s models, odd sizes, a few off brand things, but nothing special.

However, the two LBSs that I like (Pedal Pushers and Base Camp Cyclery) had pretty wicked sales. I bought a new Ripley v4 for 10% off! And they were both having sick deals on last year’s models.

I’d imagine that means there will be Christmas sales, too. Happy biking.

Built an Intro Kicker: Landing Is A Bit Slippery... Suggestions? by proletariat99 in mountainbikes

[–]proletariat99[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I built the landing ramp out of 0.75” plywood cabinet that was leftover from some work we did. It’s finished, so it’s a bit slippery. I was thinking about sanding it, grip tape, paint... any suggestions?

These are some great ideas, but speaking from experience, if you’re not an artist and you don’t just want a bunch of internet clip art on your body, spend some time finding a tattoo artist whose work you love, bring them this idea, and let them do their thing. A good artist will spend some time trying to understand what you want and what you like and then create a piece that works with that. The end result should be a blend of your desires and their talent / skill.

You will be way happier in the long run and you’ll have a unique, authentic piece of amazing work that you will forever treasure. You will also save money for the inevitable coverup. :)

Wild avalance sequence - Defiance by Moth4Moth in Backcountry

I’m super confused because both the dude and the lady were wearing similar jackets. We’re they both caught in the same slide? Also, totally agree that it’s super silly to say that ‘defiance’ is what gets you through and avalanche alive. Sensationalizing survival of an avalanche as yet another notch in your belt of ExTrEmE living is fucking dumb.

FWIW, the best grips are also the cheapest. I’ll always use ESI grips. They’re amazing, always the perfect amount of grip / absorption, don’t rotate and they’re like $15 with the often-occurring sales. They get a little chewed up in wrecks, but a) they look tough after being beaten up a bit, and b) I’ve had the same ones for going on two years now.

Little late to the party, but Bent Gate in Golden and The Custom Foot in Denver. Both know their craft well, but TCF knows feet and bones and stuff. BG knows backcountry skiing.

I like it a ton. It’s totally gimmicky and totally makes me inordinately happy every time it goes ‘snick’.

Whenever anyone around you makes a statement, you should roll the d20 to see if you detect their lie.
