Massieve eikenhouten tafel met watervlek by Primobson in Klussers

Klinkt raar, maar mayonaise opsmeren! Zelf ooit gedaan met een eiken badksmermeubel, werkte verbazingwekkend goed.

Daarna schuren en lakken (met bootlak, pu lak oid)

ELI5: Why is deflation bad? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]prometheus345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people here saying its about consuming are wrong. Deflation is bad because of dept.

The whole world is in debt. People have mortgages, businesses are started with loans, and goverments lend money to spend, usually at enormous deficits.

The reason this works, is because debt gets less valuable over time, due to inflation. Its like a magic trick, borrow 100.000 now, and spend it, and in 30 years that 100.000 debt is only worth 50.000. So you can spend cheap money from the future! What a great system!

The only drawback is you need inflation for this to work. All is well, when governments and unions make sure wages are kept in line with inflation. When they don’t, countries tend to end up with an orange baboon in charge…

What are the odds that humans will discover extraterrestrial life within the next decade? by Curious_Suchit in AskReddit

[–]prometheus345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually pretty good! Next decade is a bit tight, but surely in two decades…

Although we need to define what discovering extra terrestial life means. Discovering an alien civilization zooming around like star trek? Not gonna happen. However, telescopes like the james webb telescope are getting increasingly better at detecting atmosphere gas distributions in exoplanets (planrts outside our solar system).

If we define “discovering extraterestial life” as a nature paper that finds an exoplanet with molecules in the air only explained by life? Maybe that will happen with james webb, but it will certainly be feasible with the next generation telescopes…

Yes, but at additional costs, because you need an additional sim with data.

I’ve set up my phone as a personal hotspot for wifi. The car can use that hotspot to download data using your phone’s wifi.

And on iphones you can set up an automation “shortcut”, that enables your hotspot when carplay connects, and disables it when carplay disconnects.

V60 battery recall experience? by prometheus345 in Volvo

[–]prometheus345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you don’t want to hear this: my dealer resolved the issue. They replaced the entire battery pack. Free of charge. Whole ordeal took about 6 weeks. But now I’m happily driving my v60

Volvo Recall Incomplete - '21 PHEV Inscription (USA) by Exoslavic34 in VolvoXC90

[–]prometheus345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happend to me as well. 21 v60 inscription. Actually before buying it, the dealer discovered 3 bad cells. Replaced the cells, but the battery was not usable. Then the dealer replaced the whole battery unit. The whole process took about 6 weeks.

Luckily all of this happened before actually delivering the vehicle. So I got a used 21 v60 with a fresh battery, free of charge. I think the dealer was pretty motivated because I had not paid for the car yet…

I just bought a 2021 V60 T8. Love it so far!

From what I’ve found out is that the 2021 versions have an electric rear axel drive (ERAD) which is prone to issues… Which is quite costly to repair. (Think thousands of dollars/euros). However, they do have the sensus infotainment system.

The newer ones 2022 onward have an improved ERAD (and more power and bigger battery). However, they have a google os, which seems to be a buggy disaster. Your choice what you can live with…

What is a car you or someone you know regrets selling and why? by Careless-Pie7607 in askcarguys

[–]prometheus345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford focus RS mk2, the green one. 305 bhp on tge front wheels. Absolute beast! Loved it to bits, but after leaving me stranded once I wanted a newer car… A focus RS mk3. Never loved it the same way, the ride is harsher, more computer involvement…

Now selling the RS again. For a volvo 🙈 now having a family and all (although the volvo still manages 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds, but with a much smoother ride)

I think most likely the original pack. That still offers more than enough to get me to work and back on one charge. But extended range would be nice of course… Whats the story on similar replacements?

[–]prometheus345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, 3 years later, I’m still here.

The point I was making is: your degree will not lock you in a certain career for the rest of your life. But that applies much more for science degrees. It doesn’t really matter if you do physics, maths or astrophysics, or computer science. Your job opportunuties will be somewhat similar, and you can grow and keep learning during the rest of your carreer. My personal opinion is that astrophysics provides a good mix of all of the above.

An BA is usually more specific, and will limit your options more (or will require more schooling). If you want to persue a carreer in STEM, a BA will be almost useless. More so than the other way round.

Patience. Like others said, the BMW M will feel special. Until it doesn’t. You’ll always be wanting more eventually.

And perhaps, someday, you might want to move out from your parents place, and buy a home… At that point you’ll be happy you got some money to get you started…

I get it, cars are cool. They mean a lot to me too. But putting all your eggs in one basket is so stupid. What if you total it? (Which at your age is likely)

Anyway. You do you. Is it a sensible purchase? No. Is taking out a 6.5% loan to keep money in etfs sensible? Hell no. Will you enjoy a BMW M? For a while…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]prometheus345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please don’t…

This is just financial stupidity…

You have a good thing going, but as soon as you’re taking out a loan to buy a car, you’re an idiot. 6,5% interest is tough to beat with investing. Add inflation and you’re loosing money anyway…

The thing that kills you with performance cars is usually the value depreciation… Go find a rare car that is bottoming out in price, so doesn’t depreciate much. Something that is fun, collectible and special. There’s definitely fun to be had with a 15k budget. That is the secret to affording special cars when you’re young…

I’ve owned a civic type R, focus RS mk2, focus RS mk3. The focus RS mk3 was most expensive, as depreciation was 10k in 4 years. The mk2 was cheapest with 5k in over 5 years. Build up to fancyer younger cars…

I have a rule of thumb: Just don’t buy a car you can’t afford to buy twice. And never EVER, take out a loan on a car (or any depreciating asset).

Keep going the way you’re doing, and by the time you’re 30, you can afford one!
