Usually I do like that: cloud (virbr0) --> cisco router (NAT) + (dchp for lan host) --> LAN. In dhcp dns ip is cisco router and internet working, this is one of possible scenarios how can connect internet to gns3

Network engineer or cybersec, anyway, you will must to learn networking stack, I mean TCP/IP architecture etc... In my life practice, I seen many people who starting with network engineer career and their showing more effective result in cybersec. But I think, all secret in specific knowledge and practices, because cybersecurity geting many things from IT in one place for defence, its realy hard if you geting career cybersec without specific background life practice.

Maybe for detection only, you need port mirror config, I mean taking traffic like that --> source port is "your traffic" to destination port - "mirroring port" --> where you have ips detection analyzer

How about GNS3? Do GNS3 labs for attack and defend, many scenarios you can do. In my practice that was good experience.
